2012: Samsung gets into the lead

The sales volume of mobile phones of all types to end consumers in the II quarter 2012 was reduced by 2.3% in comparison with the same period of 2011 to 419 million pieces, Gartner reports.

The share of smartphones in total amount of the mobile phones sold during the period from April to June, 2012 increased up to 42.7% in comparison with 36.7% the previous year.

The Samsung Electronics company (Samsung Electronics Rus) which according to the results of the I quarter 2012 came out on top on the supply rate of mobile phones on the market (earlier within 14 years this place belonged to Nokia Corporation), in the II quarter strengthened market positions in relation to Nokia (the second place) and Apple (the third place). The share of the Korean vendor increased from 16.3% in 2011 up to 21.6%.

Success of Samsung is caused by high sales of the Galaxy smartphones. During the specified period the company sold the record number of smartphones. According to Gartner, in the II quarter of 50.4% sold to Samsung in global market of all mobile devices made smartphones[1].

As for sales according to platforms, It should be noted significant strengthening of market positions of Android. In the II quarter of 64.1% of all sold smartphones are smarfona on Android.

According to IDC, the world market of phones in 2010 grew by 17.9%. For 2010 total volumes of deliveries were 1.39 billion that is 18.5% more in comparison with 2009.

According to IDC, in 2010 despite sales reduction for 2.4%, on the first place there was still Nokia Corporation. In 2010 Nokia shipped 453 million phones.

Samsung shipped more than 80 million phones. Sales volumes only of one Galaxy S model were about 10 million. The total amount of deliveries - 280.2 million pieces.

LG, taken the third place, supplied 116.7 million phones to the market. Success of the Optimus One model is especially noted.

Closes top four of ZTE, finished the 4th quarter with annual increment of the supply rates of 76.8%. The total amount of deliveries in 2010 - 51.8 million

Despite a gain of 86.2%, Apple did not manage to bypass ZTE though came very close to it (47.5 million pieces for 2010)
