South Korea invests $2.3 billion in drones with rifles and grenade launchers

Great Britain can refuse tanks for benefit of a cyber weapon

The government of Great Britain studies a question of disposal of the growing old park of armored vehicles after the Ministry of Defence urged to invest more in a cyber weapon, space and other advanced technologies[1].

AI defeated the pilot of F-16 virtual air fight

The artificial intelligence won a victory over the pilot of F-16 in five rounds of virtual air fight, The Daily Telegraph writes in August. And AI completed in own favor all five rounds within the opposition arranged with Management of perspective research projects of the U.S. Department of Defense (DARPA)[2].

Tests on voice actuation of fighting robots began in Russia

Russia is tested voice actuation of fighting robots, the commander gives orders to the automated complex as well as soldiers, the head of the National center of development of technologies Fonda of perspective researches Oleg Martyanov[3] said [4].

He noted that at first management of robotic complexes was fulfilled using the electronic tablet, then the technology of voice actuation when the commander of division gives commands to subordinates and robots was used, TASS reports in June.

Also Martyanov noted that in 2021 will pass control tests of the fighting robot of Marker.ru, after that the robot will be transferred to the Russian Defense Ministry.

The USA provided the smart submarine which can attack without order of military

At the beginning of March, 2020 US Navy announced creation of the submarine managed by artificial intelligence which can attack without order of military.

The project is under authority of Management of naval researches and was described as "autonomous system of underwater weapon" (CLAWS), reports the New Scientist edition. Detailed information on the underwater robot was provided within budget documentation of 2020.

The director of the Program for studying of extremism and counteraction to terrorism at Institute of the Middle East (USA) Charles Lister published the video shot by the Turkish UAV. According to him, Turkey conducts "the air campaign which is completely managed by the armed UAVs which the heavy rocket artillery supports".

The Minister of Defence of Turkey said that from the moment of the beginning in Syria of the transaction "Spring Board" (on February-2 27 March) the Turkish military shot down two warplanes and eight helicopters and also destroyed five air defense complexes and more than 2.5 thousand soldiers and officers battling on the party of government troops of Syria.

Syria reacted to the Turkish airstrike with the fact that closed airspace over Idlib.

The Pentagon developed the principles of use of artificial intelligence technologies in the battlefield

At the end of February, 2020 the Pentagon accepted new ethical principles of use of artificial intelligence technologies in the battlefield. According to these recommendations, AI should be "responsible", "proportional", "clear", "reliable" and "managed".

These principles require from people "show the proper level of care" at deployment and use of the AI systems, such as systems which scan aerial photographs for search of the purposes. Also it is noted that the decisions made by automated systems should be "traced" and "managed", i.e. "there has to be a method to disconnect or deactivate" them if necessary.

In the USA cyborgs grasshoppers begin to be used for explosive search

In February, 2020 the American authorities reported about uses of cyborgs grasshoppers for explosive search. They are developed by researchers from the University of Washington who used olfactory feelings of the American grasshopper, Schistocerca americana, for creation of analyzers of biological bombs. The Russian President charged to expand a line of fighting robots and drones

On November 22, 2019 it became known that at a meeting of the Security council on Friday, November 22, the Russian President charged to expand till 2033 a line of laser and hypersonic weapon, fighting robots and unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to the president, in 2020 formation of the state program of arms till 2033 and the program of development of defense industry complex will begin. A priority problem of the period is "building of quality and quantity characteristics of arms and the equipment", the president emphasized.

In particular, the line of the weapon based on "the new physical principles" should be expanded including the prospecting and shock drones, the laser and hypersonic systems and robotic complexes capable to carry out versatile tasks in the battlefield[6].

In the middle of November, 2019 the Dutch non-profit organization Pax which fights for world peace issued the new report where warns readers - robots murderers already become a reality.

Drones with explosive attacked oil fields and made it more expensive

On August 17, 2019 the unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with explosive attacked the Sheyba oil field of the Saudi state oil company Saudi Aramco.  Diversion led to increase in prices for oil.

According to Reuters, insurgents Houthis from the Shiite movement "Ansar Allah" used 10 drones for an attack to oil refinery and the Sheyba field.  This largest attack of Houthis on the objects located far from border of Saudi Arabia with Yemen.

The Minister of Energy, the industry and mineral resources of the kingdom and the chairman of the board of Saudi Aramco Khalid al-Falikh told Al Arabiy TV channel that this terrorist attack is directed to blasting not only export of the kingdom, but also a world oil supply.

It is not the first case of the attack of drones on objects of oil industry of Saudi Arabia. In May, 2019 UAVs with explosive struck the oil pipeline the East — the West then in Saudi Arabia stopped pumping.

The civil war in Yemen continues since August, 2014 when insurgents Houthis overthrew the president of the country  Mansour Hadi  and took the most part of the state, including the capital, the city of Sana'a. In 2015 Saudi Arabia and the coalition headed by it interfered with the conflict that led to violence escalation.[7]

The U.S. Army adds to the arsenal the robot who transports soldiers in the combat zone

In the middle of July, 2019 the U.S. Army announced carrying out fighting tests of the new robot for the combat zone. Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCVS) is intended for transportation of staff of ground forces and its fire support. The Russian company Zala Aero entering into Kalashnikov Concern developed the patrolling ammunition of KUB-BLA and carried out its successful tests. The Pentagon selected $800 million for underwater pilotless devices

At the beginning of August, 2018 it became known that the U.S. Department of Defense selected $800 million for underwater pilotless devices.

The Pentagon signed contracts with 23 companies between which tasks of researches, developments and production of drones will be divided. The tasks connected with "purchase of the materials and services used for development, construction, production and support of the pilotless underwater systems" will be provided to each of the organization. The works on the contract are going to be completed by July, 2023.

It is 28% more, than the previous year.

In the publication of the newspaper it is also said that about 50% of all projects on development of pilotless devices — air, land and sea — are the share of orders of the American Navies.[9]

It is possible that one of the main tasks of underwater drones of the USA consists in opposition to the Russian underwater pilotless Poseidon system which, according to a statement Russian Defense Ministry, will be able to carry a warhead with power up to 2 megatons. About development of the pilotless Poseidon submersible originally known as "Status-6", for the first time it became known in November of the 2015th. In March, 2018 the president Russia Vladimir Putin confirmed officially existence of such weapon.

South Korea replaces a part of soldiers with robots

In May, 2018 it became known of the decision of the South Korean Ministry of Defence to replace soldiers with robots because of demographic crisis.

According to the news agency Yonhap with the link of the minister of national defense of South Korea  Son   Yong Mu  (Song Young-moo), earlier in 2018 military studied effects of creation of the armed forces consisting of people and robots.

2017

MQ-25 Stingray (deck UAV refueler)

In December, 2017 the Boeing company provided the deck unmanned aerial vehicle intended for refueling military airplanes. It was developed within the MQ-25 Stingray project.

In the USA disposable military UAVs will appear

American company Yates Electrospace Corp. undertook development of disposable gliders which will be able to deliver more effectively ammunition and provisions to groups which are in hardly accessible areas. The order arrived from marines of the USA.

The project received the name Silent Arrow ("A silent arrow"). According to the contract, Yates Electrospace Corp. will create unmanned aerial vehicles which depending on a series will be able to deliver freights weighing from 227 to 454 kg; these devices will be destroyed in a destination point that is much more effective than the methods used now.

The delivery modes of supplies existing at the moment in hardly accessible zones though are checked decades, cannot meet the modern requirements fully any more – so, the parachute systems are not capable to plan for long distances. Tiny drones murderers can make mass attacks on people (video)

In November, 2017 professor  of the University of California UC Berkeley   Stuart Russell submitted video showing the world in which nuclear weapon is replaced with a swarm of independent tiny drones murderers. The scientist said that these drones — already reality.

Video was created at Institute of life of the future (Future of Life Institute)  which is supported  by Stephen Hawking  and  Elon Musk. The roller was provided by professor Russell at the meeting of organization members of the united nations devoted to modern types of arms which took place in Geneva.

As a part of AF of Russia the first division on fight against drones appeared

In the Western Military District sformirorvano the first permanent division on fight against drones

Based on separate connection of radio-electronic fight of the Western Military District (REB Western Military District) the first permanent tactical division on fight against pilotless aircraft is created. The press service of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation[13][14] reported about it [15].

According to the commander of the REB Western Military District connection of the colonel Alexander Vostrikov, this division is in own way unique. All military personnel has unique professional skills and technical knowledge in the field of radio-electronic fight.

The basis of a company is formed by the military personnel of contract service, non-commissioned officer's and officers. Works on training of specialists are beyond the educational periods of preparation of line departments. According to Vostrikov, in fact intensity and quality of training it is comparable with preparation of divisions of special troops. For working off of practical tasks the written-off military UAVs and the special flying targets are used during the exercise.

In total about 20 special forces are created. Their structure includes anti-aircraft weapons, aircraft and sniper divisions of the Western Military District.

Boeva's Nerehta robot

In the Russian army it will be taken advantage fighting robot "Nerehta", created Plant of V.A. Degtyarev in cooperation with Fund of perspective researches. The news agency "" Interfax was reported about it in October, 2017 by the head of department of the innovation researches of the Head Department of Research Activity (HDRA) Ministry of Defence colonel Oleg Pomazuyev[16].

Danger of fighting robots

On August 21, 2017 the group of 116 heads of the companies occupied with robotics and artificial intelligence technologies (AI) addressed with the open letter the United Nations (UN) in which they warned about danger of fighting robots and urged to prohibit their creation.

According to intention of developers, weapon can be used both by civilians for protection of the private territory, and law enforcement agencies, for example, on mass actions. It is possible to apply it at distance to two kilometers against the flying, floating or land robots drones. Using a gun it is possible to force the drone to land. Here is how it works:

Weapon is equipped with a collimator sight which provides very high speed of aiming — about 2-3 times higher, than normal. Besides, in a set there are pluggable units of suppression GPS and GLONASS, a tactical handle and the different hinged equipment: stroboscope, laser system of targeting and audio-and video recorder.

Also the device is capable to suppress GSM signals and Wi-Fi of 5.8 and 2.4 gigahertzes. Thus, the gun can be used against improvised explosive devices which are often activated using the mobile phone. The gun allows to muffle all incoming signals to the device and, thus, to prevent explosion.

The Israeli army will replace the fighting lamas with robots

The Israel Defense Forces will replace lamas who are used by military for transportation of the equipment, ammunition and food, on robots. Military decided to refuse lamas because of their sluggishness — animals interfered with operational movement of soldiers[19].

Remotely-controlled robots will be able to transport loads up to 500 kilograms, to gather speed to 10 km/h and to work 8 hours without recharge. They will begin to be implemented in army in September.

According to the memorandum published by the lieutenant general Joseph Anderson, experts of Research laboratory of Army Research Laboratory detected a number of vulnerabilities therefore it is necessary to stop their use without delay in drones. As it is specified in the memorandum, military are obliged to stop use of drones, to take out from them batteries and removable drives of information and also to refuse all other products of DJI.

The headquarters of DJI (Da-Jiang Innovation Corporation) is in Shenzhen, and according to Goldman Sachs and Oppenheimer, in 2016 the company possessed 70% of all market of commercial unmanned aerial vehicles of a consumer class.

The company management made the decision of U.S. Army with big surprise and disappointment. As the director of department of public relations of DJI Michael Perry reported the sUAS News edition, the American military did not approve the sudden solution with the producer. The company intends to contact representatives of U.S. Army and to specify about what vulnerabilities it there is a speech in the memorandum.

Let's remind, in 2016 DJI agreed to provide the data obtained from the drones to the authorities of the People's Republic of China. It was talked of information on location, records of the flights and video records loaded by users on servers[20].

Belarus: Export of weapon against UAVs

Belarus can become the second country in the world which will export arms against the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The country will compete with China own development of a gun which allows to force down drones. The gun generates noises on control link of the UAV and muffles its satellite navigation – GPS and GLONASS.

That Belarus is going to adjust export of unusual arms Digital.Report was told by one of developers of a gun, the employee of Radar design office Anton Krivitsky. "Mass production of an antidronovy gun is planned, but so far we did not decide on its final design and a form. Besides there is a work on the choice of range of impact on pilotless devices. Most likely we will come to a form and characteristics which will be approved by specific intelligence agencies", – he told[21].

Force down drones a sound

[1]Professor of the Korean institute of advanced technologies Yongdae Kim made on[22] the report devoted to deception of passive and active sensors in different devices[23].

Passive sensors, like gyroscopes and magnetometers, simply estimate a surrounding situation and announce "observations" to the device. Active sensors, like radars and sonars, in turn, send signals outside and in the work rely on the indications received with return of a signal. Kim showed that it is possible to hack both that and others.

As the first example the researcher took gyroscopes which are used in serially released UAVs. Many materials have the so-called resonance frequency which forces them to vibrate (quite so it is possible to provoke "explosion" of a glass glass by means of very high note). Kim and his command managed to pick up the necessary frequency for gyroscopes of 7 of 15 studied commercial drones, including STMicro and InvenSense iron. The frequency range used by researchers varies from the sounds heard by a human ear to sounds, indiscernible people, but all of them will see off to one result: the drone falls because of problems with a gyroscope and a gyrostabilizer (inertial measurement unit).

The problem was visually shown directly on the stage, during the report. Kim and his assistant caused falling of the quadcopter, "having shot" at it a sound at the necessary frequency. As the second example medical sensors which are used in "smart" droppers (or medical infusional pumps) were taken and regulate supply of drugs. It turned out that it is possible to confuse such sensor by means of a normal laser pointer. If to light a pointer on the sensor, it will lose an opportunity to estimate quantity of the drops coming to the patient's body. Kim told that during tests a dropper it was succeeded "deceive", having forced it to give to the patient a double dose of medicine and also to cut down a dose for 45%. Moreover, the radius of such attack is limited only to the laser power so the only condition which needs to be observed – that the sensor was in direct "visibility" of a beam, and the distance can be almost any. As a result the researcher recommended to close transparent elements of infusional pumps at least a normal opaque adhesive tape.

"Pulemety-glushilki" for protection against drones

The Swiss police carries out in Davos at the World Economic Forum (WEF) testing of antidronovy devices - "glushilok", externally similar to manual machine guns[25].

Protivodronovy guns are intended for security on begun on January 17, 2017. About 3 thousand people from more became participants of a forum in ski resort, than 70 countries of the world, among them there are about 30 leaders of the states.

According to Bloomberg, protivodronovy weapon is intended for neutralization of the UAVs which are potentially executing espionage missions. glushilka do not force down drones literally, they interrupt a signal which is sent to the UAV by his operator. The UAV becomes uncontrolled, however does not fall to the ground, and hangs up in air. The UAV also cannot transmit at the same time a signal, let us assume, video broadcasting. At this stage security officers start the UAVs with an ad hoc network which catches the "criminal" UAV.

Drones can be used for photography and drawing up cards of police posts, conducting shadowing, or even the physical attack. Glushilki makes by the German company H.P. Marketing & Consulting Wüst, about 30 years of the work of security officers which is engaged in production of devices for security.

The management of strategic opportunities of the U.S. Department of Defense together with command of the aviation systems of Naval Forces carried out new tests of the miniature Perdix unmanned aerial vehicles. According to[26], during tests from three F/A-18 Super Hornet fighters 103 UAVs which then integrated in pack[27] were started[28].
