POP3

POP3 (Post Office Protocol Version 3) — the protocol of post office, version 3. This protocol is intended for delivery of e-mail messages from the server to e-mail clients. As a rule, it is used together with the SMTP Simple Mail Transfer Protocol protocol - the Simple mail transfer protocol.

POP и POP2

The previous versions of the POP and POP2 protocol already became outdated. The standard of POP3 protocol is set in RFC 1939. Expansions and methods of authorization are provided to RFC 2195, RFC 2449, RFC 1734, RFC 2222, RFC 3206, RFC 2595. Some methods of sale of POP3 servers support TLS and SSL. The protocol for collection of information from the mail server of the same type is IMAP. POP3 commands are a key word some of which follows one or more arguments, consisting of the printed ASCII of characters. The termination of all commands is CRLF pair (in Visual Basic the constant vbCrLf). Between a key word and arguments the single space is always put. Is a part of a key word from three to four characters, and the argument can consist of forty characters. As answers in POP3 serve status lights and a key word which the additional information can follow. The answer comes to the end with CRLF pair. In POP3 protocol there are only two status lights: "+OK" - positive and "-ERR" - negative.
