SOAP

SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) is the information transfer protocol through a global network organized atop HTTP. This standard was developed by Microsoft for needs of RPC (Remote Procedure Call, or a remote call of procedures) and COM (Component Object Model). The SOAP protocol had to allow to cause RPC over HTTP. Development was successful therefore it was transformed to the SOAP standard at number 1.1 which was sent for consideration in consortium of the W3C web standards. The SOAP specification defines a packet of XML which is used for message exchange. There are two types of messages — a request and the answer.

The SOAP protocol is rather simple and convenient in implementation and use that directly is confirmed by avalanche growth of different implementations which happened after its emergence. Not only large (IBM, Microsoft, Apache), but also small players of the market of SOA have the implementations, however, I do not know why it is necessary for the last, but the competition will never prevent. SOAP quickly changes, and right after creation of the specification of version 1.1 work on changes and additions began. At the moment version 1.2 is considered by consortium W3C and recommended for application though still is not the standard.
