2018: Growth by 30% up to 28.3 million pieces

In 2018 came the record number of wearable devices to the European market — 28.3 million pieces. It is 30% more in comparison with the 2017th, the data of IDC published at the end of April, 2019 demonstrate.

In Central and Eastern Europe (TsVE) which Russia treats so-called basic gadgets — fitness trackers, earphones and other low-functional devices are in the greatest demand. 78.3% of deliveries of wearable electronics to TsVE at the end of 2018 were the share of such solutions. For comparison: in Western Europe the share of basic devices made 54.4%, and in general on the European market — 58.8%.

The analyst of IDC Jiri Tershel (Jiří Ter š el) noted surge in demand for "smart" wireless earphones in TsVE: sales of these products in the region more than doubled and made nearly 900 thousand units in 2018. Such earphones are on sale better, than the smartwatch with basic functionality, the expert reported.

According to him, for many producers 2018 was issued successful in terms of sales of wearable electronics in Central and Eastern Europe. Xiaomi thanks to release of fitness bracelets worth up to $30 was especially selected.

As for multifunction ("smart") wearable devices, like hours of Apple Watch, 22% of sales of wearable electronics in TsVE in 2018 were the share of them. In Western Europe the share of such category appeared equal 45.6%, and on all the European market — 41.2%. The largest producers of "smart" gadgets in the European market in IDC called the following companies:[1]

In terms of sale of basic devices alignment of forces following:

  • Apple;
  • Fitbit;
  • Xiaomi;
  • Garmin;
  • Huawei.
