Carol Bartz - till September, 2011 the CEO and the president of Yahoo Internet company. The veteran of Silicon Valley who worked in Sun Microsystems, 3M of Digital Equipment, Cisco Systems and Intel, Bartz had reputation of the tough, but fair manager.

Biography

Received degree of the bachelor of the University of Wisconsin.

From 1983 to April, 1992 Bartz worked in SUN Microsystems company, also held positions in Cisco Systems, BEA Systems, Intel, NetApp.

Since 1992 worked in Autodesk company, having finished career in a position of the chairman of the board of directors, before occupied only top posts.

  • Carol Bartz came to Yahoo!, having replaced the former CEO and the co-founder Jerry Yang at the time of stagnation - when the company lost a vector of further development. Replacement of the leadership happened after Yahoo! in 2008 refused to be on sale Microsoft for $47.5 billion and could not prolong the advertizing agreement with Google. After a number of failures in November, 2008 the former CEO announced addition of the powers.

In January, 2009 the board of Yahoo! announced that search of the new chief executive is complete, and 60-year-old Carol Bartz, at that time - the chairman of the board of directors of Autodesk who devoted to this company the last 14 years of the career will become him.

Under the direction of Bartz by the end of 2009 of Yahoo! and Microsoft, at last, could agree, but any more not about sale, and about cooperation in search business. In its framework Yahoo! agreed to use Microsoft Bing search engine in the services. In exchange for it Microsoft gave to the partner an opportunity to place advertizing on the platforms. Profit partners agreed to divide equally.

Anyway, but Bartz could not stop falling of share price of Yahoo! which after a failure of the transaction with Microsoft lost in price more than a half.

  • In September, 2011 Yahoo! was announced departure of the chief executive officer by Carol Bartz whose duties were temporarily undertaken by Timothy Morse, the chief financial executive of the company, the former top manager of General Electric who joined Yahoo! in 2009.

During search of permanent replacement Bartz will work again formed executive committee into which top managers of Yahoo! entered. The committee will monitor the current activity and will stop the existence after the end of search.

Roy Bostock, the chairman of the board of Yahoo!, Bartz thanked for its hard work "during the important period in the history of the company" and said that, according to them, "huge prospects of growth" for which use it is necessary to replace the management are offered them.

In the letter directed to the staff of Yahoo!, Bartz reported how she was dismissed. "I am very sorry to announce you that the chairman of the board just called me and dismissed me by phone, - Bartz writes. - I with pleasure worked with all of you and I wish you only the best".
