Actian — the American software maker. Among other products the company develops the database management system (DMS) with the open code Ingres, the analytical Vectorwise system and the application package of Action Apps intended for automation of accomplishment of certain actions for work of business on the basis of changes in data in real time. 

History

2018: HCL Technologies purchased Actian for $330 million

In April, 2018 the Indian IT company HCL Technologies and private investment fund Sumeru Equity Partners announced Actian purchase. The cost of the transaction was $330 million.

Under the terms of the agreement, HCL will receive 80% of shares Actian, Sumeru  — the rest. Despite change of owners Actian will remain the independent company under the leadership of the same Rohit De Souza.

The president and the CEO of HCL  C Vijayakumar says that Actian will play very important role in expansion of a portfolio of the developing technologies, including platforms for data management. Besides, Actian acquisition considerably will increase the intellectual property of HCL that will allow to improve developments.

According to the managing director of Sumeru Equity Partners George Kadifa, the general vision, experience and a global business scope which Actian and HCL has will allow the companies to implement the value of their hybrid data fully.

Si Vidzhayakumar agrees that the products Actian together with the solutions HCL Mode 2, such as Cloud Native, Digital, Analytics and Dryice, will become "the powerful offer which will use all force of hybrid data".

Sumeru Equity Partners says that the decision on investment into Actian was made in communication by great opportunities for growth which the companies whose business is concentrated on work with data have.[1]
