2018: Cracking of a system of payment cards

On October 28, 2018 the Pakistani bank Bank Islami announced cracking of the system of payment cards. As a result of an incident malefactors managed to steal $6.5 million, however the financial organization denies this information. Cracking of Bank Islami is large cyber attack in the country.

Incident was detected in October 28 when the internal system of security recorded suspicious transactions using the debit cards issued to Bank Islami outside the country. The management of bank without delay turned off access of bank to international payment systems.

According to the statement of Bank Islami, financial organization it was succeeded to return everything the means stolen from customer accounts. Though the international processing systems of payments give the amount of $6.5 million, according to bank representatives, malefactors stole 2.6 million Pakistani rupees (about $19.5 thousand).

According to an anonymous source: "Explicit information leak from Bank Islami takes place, digital copies of these credit cards of clients of Bank Islami fell into hands of hackers. Generally transactions were performed in Brazil and the USA, and their most part was carried out via PoS-terminals in Target shops."[1]
