2020: Apple will pay $9.75 million to users of the earphones which remained dissatisfied with battery life

On August 27, 2020 it became known that Apple agreed settle the class action and pay compensation to buyers Beats Powerbeats2 Wireless earphones which had a number claims to product quality.

Total amount of compensation which will be separated among participants the claim, makes $9.75 million.

Beats Powerbeats2 is the wireless earphones put on the market in 2015 to year. Are intended for the people leading active lifestyle and equipped with protection against hit of sweat and moisture.

In 2017 five buyers of earphones submitted the legal claim to Apple, having accused the producer of carrying out dishonest advertizing and providing incorrect technical characteristics.

According to claimants, Apple in the advertizing of earphones, to participation in which the basketball player Lebron James and the tennis-player Serena were invited Williams, were positioned in marketing materials as ideal earphones for sports. The company also claimed that their time independent operation makes till 6 o'clock.

Buyers, however, did not accept product quality which in the the statement they call "low-grade". Not only that earphones not work the designated time, so also actually are not moisture protective, they specified in the complaint. One of the main claims consisted in operation of the accumulator which quickly degraded and ceased to save a charge.

Users were surprised that Apple sells a product at the price almost $200 when its cost value, by some calculations, is equal all $17.

In certain cases Apple agreed to provide instead of another device copy, but it had the same shortcomings.

Despite consent to pay compensation, Apple to admit the guilt refused. The company reported that took this step in order that avoid larger expenses which can incur if the lawsuit will proceed.[1]

2017: Class action to Apple

On September 12, 2017 the claim from group of Americans who accuse the Apple corporation since 2014 owning the Beats trademark of false advertizing and deception of consumers concerning quality of Powerbeats 2 and Powerbeats 3 earphones came to district court of Auckland (the State of California, the USA), and require compensation for damage in the amount of $5 million.

The claim carries the status collective could join it and other injured buyers, The Register reports.[2]

In the advertizing Apple praises highly expensive Powerbeats earphones which retail price is $199.95, claiming that it is strong earphones and the best for fitness classes. In practice they do not differ in either durability, or protection against influence of sweat and moisture. Moreover, the statement that earphones are capable to work on one battery power from 6 to 12 hours, is also not true. Because of defect in design operating time from the accumulator gradually decreases, and as a result these low-quality earphones in general cease to hold a charge, the complaint says.

Claimants connect bad quality of Powerbeats with low cost of components and bring assessment of the specialist of Bolt company Avery Louie who disassembled popular Beats by Dre Solo earphones earlier and found out that cost value of their components makes only $16.9 into confirmation. At the retail price of $199.95 "wrapping" of the producer makes more than 1000%.

Also follows from the complaint that many people faced bad quality and frequent breakdowns of Powerbeats earphones what confirms negative reviews in Network.

Apple continues to advertize and sell low-quality Powerbeats earphones, getting impressive profit on their sale. Acting this way, the company deceives the public and the buyers, - Deonn Morgan, Lidiya Zepeda, Sofia Ivy, Kelly Okorocha and Jennifer Zelinski who made the claim said.
