2018: Software implementation for recognition of the cow heads

In January, 2018 it became known that the Irish startup of Cainthus specializing in technologies of computer vision and machine learning and their application in agriculture created a specialized software for recognition of cows on their "persons".

According to developers, identification of cows on individual traits of muzzles allows to collect various information on each animal, beginning from features of their behavior, finishing with appetite. Data can be used by owners of farms for monitoring of health of dairy cows and increase in their milk yield, Farm Ireland tells.[1]

Software developed by Cainthus on recognition of cows is unique, David Hunt, the president and one of founders of the startup founded in 2015 and having offices in Dublin, Ottawa and San Francisco claims.

As far as we know, we the only company in the world which learned to identify cows only using visual recognition — Hunt said in an interview to the Irish edition. He also noted that the technology works practically with 100 percent accuracy.

The Khanty reported that on the account of the company there is already the first commercial transaction, and as of the beginning of January of the 2018th there was a preparation for the second. The president of Cainthus also added that the company is open to offers from business, but more than 1000 cows as in such farms use of a system brings the most notable effect are going to pay priority attention to dairy farms with a livestock.

Meanwhile, on January 31, 2018 the Bloomberg agency announced that the largest American food corporation Cargill acquired a minority stake of Cainthus. In telephone interview David Hunt confirmed to the edition information, however and the amount of investments did not open a part of the transaction.[2]
