2017: Restriction of the Chinese investments

In June, 2017 it became known of plans of the United States to strengthen control of the Chinese investments into the companies working in Silicon Valley to protect technologies which are important to the country in terms of national security. About it the Reuters agency was told by the acting and former American officials.

More Washington is concerned about the interest of the Chinese business in artificial intelligence technologies and machine learning. According to the American authorities, the advanced developments of the local companies can be used by Celestial Empire for strengthening of the military opportunities and further promotion in strategically important industries.

The USA limits the Chinese investments into artificial intelligence

In the unpublished report of the Pentagon which was at the disposal of Reuters, it is said that China without effort bypasses control of the USA and gets access to important technologies through transactions (creation of joint ventures, purchase of minority shares and investment into startups on initial stage) for which checks of the American Committee on the foreign investments of Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, CFIUS are not required). The U.S. Government wants to strengthen a role of CFIUS when it is about acquisition of the American companies.
