History

2020: BMC Software purchased Compuware

At the beginning of March, 2020 BMC Software announced Compuware acquisition. The companies used the right not to open financial terms of transaction as both of them are non-public. BMC Software only called this purchase "one of the largest in recent years".

According to sources of the Bloomberg agency, owners of Compuware wanted to sell the company for $2 billion taking into account its debts.

BMC Software buys Compuware from Thoma Bravo investment fund which purchased software developer for mainframes in 2014 for $2.4 billion.

The SiliconANGLE edition reminds that BMC Software began as software developer for mainframes, but over time the company changed business accents towards more fast-growing directions, such as solutions for monitoring of cloud infrastructure. At the same time the company continues to develop an extensive line of software products for mainframes, including solutions for control automation by data, cyber security and other main options of use of such equipment.

BMC Software and Compuware long time competed, but since 2015 they are partners — the companies made mutual integration of the products.[1]
