2020: VMware purchased Datrium

On July 1, 2020 VMware announced acquisition of Datrium company which specializes in development of cloud services on disaster recovery of data.

Parts of the transaction are not disclosed, but it is known that from the moment of foundation in 2012 Datrium was succeeded to attract in total $120 million investments. This amount includes $60 million collected within a round of financing of series D which was headed by Samsung Electronics.

VMware purchased the developer of a cloud for disaster recovery of data

The Datrium company which already has experience of cooperation with VMware offers services of data recovery in the environment of VMware Cloud on Amazon Web Services. The service allows to create backup copies which are ciphered, deduplitsirutsya and stored in Amazon S3 storage.

John Gilmartin, the vice president of VMware and the head of hyper convergent infrastructure, noted that the idea consists in integration of technology with cloud solutions of the company for development of services for data recovery. Hybrid cloud strategy enjoy popularity among clients of VMware therefore it is very important to company to provide to users access to any computer environment and applications.

Gilmartin believes that integration of VMware Cloud with Datrium DRaaS will allow to improve and simplify for users process of interaction with a hybrid cloud and also to achieve reduction of operating costs and the continuity of work of business.

Meanwhile the head of Datrium Page Type holds the opinion that data recovery should be performed without special difficulties. The enterprises should not stop on simple solutions, allowing conversion of formats or long recovery on the survived data when the problem requires immediate permission.[1]
