The center was created in Moscow in March, 2003 as Airbus joint venture and Kaskol groups and became the first design office created by Airbus in Europe outside the member countries.

2017: Engineering center Airbus ECAR of 15 years, 120 projects, 200 employees

About 25 engineers worked at an opening stage in the center, in 2018 over 200 specialists work here. All engineers of ECAR are completely integrated into Airbus design office and regularly there take place trainings at the plants of the company in Toulouse and Hamburg. ECAR also actively cooperates with the Russian design offices and the companies.

In 15 years of activity of the engineering center over 120 projects according to the A320/A320neo, A330/A340, A350 and A380 programs were implemented. The competence ECAR includes such works as design of power construction and the systems of the Airbus airplanes, calculations on static and fatigue resistance, resistance to damages and also support of serial production.

Among achievements of the center in recent years It should be noted participation of ECAR in the program of development of the cargo aircraft A330F where the Russian engineers performed over 80% of all project works. Thanks to exact calculations of specialists of ECAR it was succeeded to lose the actual weight of power construction on 1 ton that allowed to increase a pay load of the airplane, in turn. Participation of ECAR in the A350 XWB program became an important stage also. The specifics of these works consisted in application of absolutely new techniques for strength calculations, creation of the interface drawings and the main assemblies that is caused by wide use of composite materials in construction of the airplane. In a work progress over the A350 XWB program the Russian engineers executed all project and strength calculations for tail section of the fuselage, a cargo floor, modules for installation of systems and an interior of a cabin. It is remarkable that within this project specialists of the center took out two patents for inventions.

ECAR finished the project for the program of a remotorization of the widebody A330neo airplane within which the engineering center was responsible for development of new design of the fuselage, testing for static and fatigue resistance and also preparation of certified reports on durability. At the moment the Russian specialists of the center work on the A330 program with the increased maximum take-off weight, A350-900/1000 and also provide support of serial production according to the A320 and A330 programs.
