2014: The second attempt of entry into the market of Russia

In June, 2014 it became known that FamilyMart specializing in supermarkets of close proximity conducts negotiations with the regional authorities on an entry into the Russian market. The head of department of trade and services Alexey Nemeryuk told Izvestia about the fact of negotiations with Japanese. The mayor's office invited the Japanese network to become the operator of non-stationary grocery stores of close proximity.

— We needed the normal network sales manager for small shops in the downtown which would control the outlets tightly — the official told. — We did not want to involve our operators, we understood that strict control of foreigners is much more serious. Therefore we were ready to give the project to Japanese or other foreigners. But it to develop network in only Moscow it is uninteresting. They would like that their network developed through the whole country, and not just across Moscow. Therefore now we conduct negotiations with other networks. According to Nemeryuk, authorities of the capital also held negotiations on an occasion of convenience stores with the retailers working in Russia — X5 Retail Group, Metro, Auchan and also with the American company Seven-Eleven. The first auctions on such objects were planned for July, 2014.

The Japanese company FamilyMart, having rejected the offer of the Moscow mayor's office to come to the capital market, continues to consider options of an entry into the Russian[1].
