Performance Indicators

According to the head of one of cable channels and the head of advertizing agency, revenue of the channel in 2009 could make about $1 million. About 75% of revenue of Gameland TV are generated by advertizing, the rest — sale of content to mobile operators and other TV companies, Romanovsky says, own investments made $4 million, at the end of year the channel will reach operational payback.

Development plans

The channel invests the means received from the Japanese fund UMJ Russia Fund in content — Gameland TV transfers library to English, Chinese, Spanish and other languages to sell content abroad, Romanovsky tells: "The game industry is global, the programs created by us will be interesting also to the gamer on other end of the globe".

Business valuations

The managing partner of UMJ Russia Fund says to Yusuka Otsubo that he became interested in Gameland business seven years ago when he was an employee of CSK Venture Capital fund (one of shareholders — the Japanese Sega) and studied the Russian market of computer games. Otsubo considers Gameland TV channel the successful multimedia project that is very important in the Russian market where penetration of the Internet quickly grows. The Japanese pop culture (video games, an anime, the manga and music) is very popular with the Russian youth, it continues, and the TV channel can become the good pipeline for its distribution.

"Sale of the Russian content abroad — very ambitious task — doubts the analyst of the London office Citibank Dmitry Zhuk — hardly the domestic companies have advantages over studios of Eastern Europe where creation of telecontent is already debugged". Gameland created production of telecontent with extremely low cost value, it very qualitatively looks on the screen, the adviser of Media3 Vasily Gatov, besides thematic cable channels from those very few media assets which interest investors now considers. Niche channels really attract money of funds, Zhuk agrees.
