Dozens of marketplace users received soap and screwdrivers instead of ordered iPhones

On December 18, 2023, it became known that many users of the Russian Megamarket marketplace smartphones iPhone received soap, screwdrivers and dummies of cellular devices instead of those ordered. The trading platform, the largest shareholder of which is Sber"," is checking the facts of fraud.

According to Forbes, more than 60 people who used the services of Megamarket faced deception when buying expensive iPhones. As of mid-December 2023, 62 users of Megamarket were deceived. The trading platform received from them "all the necessary information, including videos and photos confirming the inconsistency of the ordered and delivered goods." Deceived customers are promised the return of spent funds and bonuses in full. Money to the account or card is returned within 10 days, depending on the issuing bank, and bonuses - up to 48 hours.

According to the Telegram channel Baza, the "fake" iPhones were shipped on December 6 and 9, 2023. They were driven by a driver who worked in the marketplace for only a week. According to him, he has nothing to do with the thefts, because he did not even know what lay inside the parcels. Nevertheless, the man was suspended from work until the situation was clarified.[2]

Rebranding

SberMegaMarket marketplace rebranded. The company abandoned the prefix "Sber" in the name, and also changed the colors of the logo. The sbermegamarket.ru site now redirects to the megamarket.ru.

The press service of the marketplace clarified to the publication vc.ru August 1, 2023 that the service shortened the name so that "it more accurately reflects the purpose of the site."[3]

The name of the application in the App Store and Google Play was changed back in early 2023, but on other platforms it remained the same, and there was no official news about the rebranding. The company explained that this is how it "tested" the updated version.

The most popular product groups were anatomical and orthopedic pillows (1639% increase), bed linen (1410%), cooking utensils (913%), gaming chairs (746%), as well as office chairs, chairs and bench sections (585%). At the same time, users increasingly preferred a single style when searching for goods on the marketplace. For example, customers of SberMegaMarket more often bought goods in the style of loft (43%), Scandinavian (21%) and modern (14%). For the convenience of customers, it was decided to allocate commodity groups in key areas.

Opening of own points of issue of orders

In September 2021, Sber began to develop its own points of issue of orders (PVZ). The first such points were opened by SberMegaMarket in Moscow. By the end of 2021, it is planned to open about 400 PVZs throughout the country, including 100 in Moscow and the Moscow region.

Sber buys 85% stake in marketplace

On March 30, 2021, the M.Video-Eldorado Group announced to TAdviser that, together with Sber and co-owner goods.ru Alexander Tynkovan, they had signed legally binding documentation on Sber's acquisition of an 85% stake in goods.ru (Marketplace LLC). Under the terms of the transaction, Sberbank acquires a part of goods.ru shares owned by M.Video-Eldorado Group, and also invests in the further development of goods.ru (Marketplace LLC). As a result, Sberbank's share in the goods.ru capital will be 85%, M.Video-Eldorado Group retains 10%, and Alexander Tynkovan, founder of M.Video, 5%.

The creation and development of e-commerce is one of the main directions for the development of the Sberbank ecosystem. The marketplace will become a multicategory e-commerce platform of Sberbank, on which 16 main categories with 2.5 million goods have already been presented as of March 2021, and in the future, according to the bank's plans, their number will only increase.

Sberbank's intention to invest 35 billion rubles

On January 28, 2020, the M.Video-Eldorado group announced to TAdviser that it had signed an agreement of intent with Sberbank and founder and co-owner goods.ru Alexander Tynkovan on the joint development of the marketplace goods.ru. As part of the deal, Sberbank intends to invest about 35 billion rubles. Most of these funds will be invested in the further development of goods.ru (Marketplace LLC). Sber will also acquire a part of the goods.ru shares owned by M.Video-Eldorado Group as of January 2021. As a result, Sber's stake in goods.ru may amount to 85%, M.Video-Eldorado Group will retain 10%, and 5% will remain with Alexander Tynkovan. It is planned that all parties will be represented on the Board of Directors of the marketplace.

According to partners' expectations, the integration of goods.ru into the Sberbank ecosystem, the use of all available developments and expertise, as well as the disclosure of synergies with ecosystem companies such as Sberbank, SberMarket, Sber Eapteka, Samokat, will allow goods.ru to create one of the key players in the e-commerce market in Russia. M.Video-Eldorado Group, while remaining a partner in the joint venture, will focus on the development of its main business. Processing of the first 85 thousand orders

M.Video, a Russian retailer of electronics and household appliances, and the Goods marketplace, part of the SafmarMikhail Gutseriev Group, announced the first results of the platform in January 2018. As of January 11, Goods is already cooperating with more than 200 online stores and manufacturers and has managed to accept orders for more than 370 million rubles.

The Russian full-format marketplace has been operating since September 2017 and offers customers more than 250 thousand goods from 200 partners - household appliances and electronics, children's goods, toys, pet products, household goods, beauty and self-care, auto goods, as well as for repairs, home and garden. The range available on Goods accounts for 60% of the target audience's annual consumer basket. The ratio of men to women among Goods buyers is 55% and 45%, age - 25-44.

The platform offers a combined basket: you can add goods from different sellers in any category to one order and receive them in one delivery, which saves time and money. On the platform, you can compare prices from different sellers and choose the most profitable. Goods runs a "best price guarantee" program so that buyers can compare prices not only with sellers on the site, but also on the market as a whole, and make a purchase at the most profitable.

Goods also offers customers to join a loyalty program, save bonus rubles and pay them up to 50% of the cost of new purchases. By analogy with coalition programs, in which several companies participate at once, the marketplace charges bonus rubles for orders from any store, and the user can spend them on any other goods of his choice.

During 2018, Goods expects to launch a mobile application, the "availability guarantee" service, the purpose of which is to ensure 100% order fulfillment even if one of the sellers refuses, while maintaining the cost and delivery period so that the buyer is guaranteed to receive his purchase. In the first half of 2018, the company plans to organize points for issuing and returning orders in M.Video stores and in points for issuing orders.

Goods (Marketplace LLC) is a Russian full-length marketplace developed by M.Video.

The owners of Goods as of January 2018 were M.Video and Alexander Tynkovan. As a subsidiary of M.Video, Goods is part of the perimeter of the Safmar Group.

2017: Launch of the online platform

So far, Goods is undergoing internal testing. Technically, the platform will begin to function in the second quarter of 2017, but the commercial launch will take place later. At first, it will serve only Moscow and the Moscow region, but by the end of 2020, M.video plans to bring Goods to cities with a million population.

Goods is owned by "M.video." The amount of authorized capital allocated by the parent company was not disclosed. After the sale of M.video is completed, Goods will be owned by the Safmar group.

Goods will charge sellers a commission for each completed order, the amount of the commission is not specified. The buyer will be able to see and compare the prices for the goods of interest to him in different stores. Purchases from different sellers will be combined into a blanket order, the payment, delivery, return and exchange system will be shared, regardless of the seller. In the future, customers will receive bonuses for their purchases and spend them on the site.

As of February 16, 2017, M.video announced the presence of nine partners in the Goods project, 30 more stores are expected. In 2017, the company plans to bring the total number of project participants to 400.

In the first months after launch, the platform will represent five categories of products:

  • household appliances and electronics,
  • household goods and repairs,
  • products for children,
  • everyday goods, including products with a long shelf life
  • pet supplies.

After the launch, it is planned to add categories of sports and automotive goods.

Earlier, M.video planned to launch the site in February 2017, representing seven categories of goods with delivery in Moscow and the Moscow region. At the beginning of 2018, the company was going to bring the number of categories to 13, adding food, clothes, shoes, household chemicals and furniture, and start serving other regions of Russia.

From April to September 2017, the marketplace operated in alpha test mode.

The idea to create a marketplace came to the leadership of M.Video in 2016, at the same time work began on its implementation. On August 26, 2016, the retailer registered Marketplace LLC, Solomon Kunin was appointed CEO.[7]
