2019: Google broke all roads in the city where delivered the free Internet, and winded down the project

Google agreed to pay to city authorities Louisville in the State of Kentucky $3.84 million within the next 20 months that the city could eliminate damage caused to its roads by the Google Fiber project. Money will go for removal of the fiber optic cables laid within the project under roads and for repair of roads. The Google service of Fiber providing to users access to the high-speed Internet the other day stopped work in Louisville[1].

The company announced that Google intends to wind down the project in Louisville in February, 2019. After the declaration it provided to users two months of free service that they could find during this time to themselves new provider.

In addition to principal amount $150 thousand will offer Google in Fund of digital equality Luisvill. Means will be spent for repair of computers for citizens with the low level of income and carrying out by other companies the cheap Internet to the state housing. Also Google intends to offer 275 recovered computers for needs of the city.

2016: Google will review the development plan for network of Google Fiber Internet service provider

The Google Fiber provider could not implement completely the plan for an entry into the telecommunication market. In particular, it is about the plan for construction of fiber lines of communication in a number of the cities of the USA on which the provider began to work since 2010. According to Vedomosti, after six years of work on the project the company understood that construction of networks was more expensive and more complex, than[2] was supposed[3].

Google Fiber already spent hundreds of millions dollars for laying of the fiber-optic communication line for ensuring speed of connection to the Internet approximately by 30 times. At the time of start of the project the provider received applications from more than one thousand cities for connection of the high-speed Internet, and in 2012 Fiber Google service already began to work in Kansas City. However since 2010 the company managed to cover only six large agglomerations.

According to the head of technical department of the Californian city of Palo Alto Johnathan Reykhental, at the companies with wide experience of unexpected problems usually does not arise, and for Google which worked in programming, laying of the fiber-optic communication line became absolutely new area. The speaker also told that he saw representatives of Google Fiber who reported that start of their service in Palo Alto and the neighboring cities is postponed at least for half a year.

Financial performance of Google Fiber does not reveal, however in Alphabet hopes that over time the provider will begin to pay off at the expense of a subscription fee and – indirectly – increases in "clickability" of on-line advertizing. Let's note that for access services subscribers of Fiber pay $70 a month, for additional TV-service – $60 more. Analysts believe that connection of one house to Fiber costs Alphabet more than $500, at the same time not all apartments in houses become subscribers.
