IDG World Expo - IDG organizes a large number of large-scale events - typical conferences for IT business. IDG World Expo holds E for All, Macworld Conference & Expo, as well as LinuxWorld Conference and Expo.

IDG News Service - the agency is headquartered in Boston, a bureau in New York, Washington, San Francisco, Tokyo, Taipei, Beijing, Singapore, Bangalore, Paris, London, Stockholm and Brussels. The agency is a provider of news, photos and videos for IDG web publications and magazines.

IDC is also a division of IDG.

2021

Blackstone bought IDG for $1.3 billion

In early June 2021, Blackstone bought a media company with a focus on IT IDG for $1.3 billion. The company was owned by Oriental Rainbow, a subsidiary of China Oceanwide Holdings Group.

Together with IDG, Blackstone receives the technical analytics firm IDC, as well as publications CIO, Computerworld, InfoWorld, Macworld, Network World, PCWorld and Tech Hive. Prior to the Blackstone deal, the IDG group made several purchases with the goal of focusing more on data and analytics.

Blackstone bought IDG for $1.3 billion

IDG CEO Mohamad Ali hopes Blackstone will be able to inject more capital into the company to further develop data-focused software services.

Prior to the Blackstone deal, IDG's goal was to combine art and science, design and technology, capture the energy that is released when these worlds are combined. The companies did not comment on plans for further business development after the close of the transaction, but most likely IDG will continue to develop data products.[1]

2020: Purchase of Triblio platform

In 2020, IDG bought the Triblio marketing data platform, which helps companies provide a more personalized customer experience.

2009:300 magazines in 85 countries

For 2009, IDG published more than 300 magazines in 85 countries.

2005: Attempted takeover of Chinese blog service BlogCN

In a group with several investors, IDG attempted to absorb the Chinese blog service BlogCN.

2001: Sale of IDG Books to John Wiley & Sons

IDG Books is a publishing division that separated from IDG (briefly renamed Hungry Minds), sold to John Wiley & Sons. The main product of the company was a series of books... " for teapots. " At first, the books of this line were devoted exclusively to computer topics, but later the range of topics was noticeably expanded. Today, the former IDG unit no longer exists as a separate organization.

1964: Creating IDC

IDG grew out of IDC, established in 1964 in Newtonville, Massachusetts, USA by Patrick McGovern and his partners. Mr. McGovern earned billions of dollars from publishing this product line, keeping the company privately owned.
