2020: S&P Global purchased IHS Markit for $44 billion

At the end of November, 2020 S&P Global announced purchase of IHS Markit for $44 billion. This transaction will accelerate a wave of consolidation of the largest suppliers of data with the Wall Street.

Under the terms of the agreement, shareholders of S&P Global will own 67.75% of the united company, the rest will belong to present shareholders of IHS Markit. Nevertheless, the transaction can appear under the threat if antimonopoly authorities decide that control for integrated data will concentrate influence over the industry in some hands.

Merge S&P from IHS Markit numbering more than 5000 analysts, data processing specialists and financial experts became the next stage in a race of the companies with Wall Street for influence in the market of data. The largest players of the industry try to benefit by the growing demand for data and analytics, and the stock S&P Global, IHS Markit and their competitors sharply grew up in the 2010th years.

The 1959-1990th

In the 1990th with the advent of the Internet databases online appeared. IHS entered energy markets, continuing to work also in the field of automotive industry, constructions and electronic engineers.

In the 1980th with the advent of personal computers, IHS began release of electronic databases and dissemination of information on CD ROM.

In 1961 when Rogers Publishing Company was purchased by Cahners Publishing the division of microfilming became Information Handling Services company. The company name is translated as "Service in information processing". IHS serviced the space industry. Among the first clients there were Martin Marietta and Convair companies. Also there was a contract with structures of military aircraft.

In 1959 Rogers Publishing Company, the publisher of news magazines on technology subject, began release of product catalogs on microfilms. Microfilming allowed to update directories, without incuring expenses on printing.
