JSCC RAS is created in 1996. On functional purpose, equipment and infrastructure JSCC RAS sotvetstvut to world-class modern computer centers and provides portebnost of domestic science and education in the solution of the fundamental and applied tasks requiring the large volume of calculations and data processing. JSCC RAS develops electronic infrastructure of science and education of Russia and provides its interaction with similar European structures.

84 employees, including 2 academicians, 9 doctors and 19 candidates of science work for fall of 2017 in MSTs. At MSTs basic departments work: The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), National Research University " Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology " (MIET), the Moscow technology university (MTU MIREA) at which more than 70 students study.

Use of the supercomputer

2011: Tflops supercomputer 124

As of April, 2011 in JSCC RAS the supercomputer Tflops with a performance about 124 is installed, he takes the 4th place in Top-50.

Supercomputer capacities JSCC RAS are on a grant basis provided to the different academic organizations as the general queue, the chief programmer of the center Oleg Aladyshev told CNews. According to it, the number of users of their system exceeds 1000 people.

In 2010, Aladyshev says, the main directions of researches for which the computing system JSCC RAS was used were conducted in the field of mathematics, mechanics, physics, information science and ADP equipment, astronomy, chemistry, science about Earth, biology, biophysics and information science, all priority directions of upgrade of Russia were mentioned.

As it appears from reports of users of the supercomputer, in the field of medicine, for example, with its help modeling of microevolution of viruses of an immunodeficiency of the person was carried out. The technology platform for a research of a question of resistance of HIV to antiviral medicines was created. Also modeling of the biological membranes containing cholesterol and other inclusions was carried out.

In the field of physics, for example, the supercomputer JSCC RAS was used for a research of mechanisms of transition of slow burning to a detonation when burning of previously mixed gas mixes in pipes, researches of processes of emergence and suppression of effect of knock in internal combustion engines. The received results were yielded, the report says, new material for a research of nonlinear processes of burning and development of new approaches to increase in efficiency of engines and also for development of modern detonation engines.

In the direction of ecology and rational environmental management on the supercomputer calculation of distribution of large-scale surface waves in the seas and oceans was executed, modeling of climate and its changes was carried out. A system was also used for modeling of global seismicity, development of methods of interpretation of data of electromagnetic monitoring of crust in seismically dangerous regions and also – for modeling of transfer of radiation in environments and problem solving of global environmental disasters.

Specialists of IVM RAS and Institute of oceanology of P.P. Shirshov developed and started on the supercomputer JSCC RAS a mathematical model of dynamics of the ocean which was applied to a research of intra annual variability of circulation of waters and level of the Caspian Sea. Using model became possible to prove existence of subsurface jet currents along east coast of the Central Caspian Sea and it is correct to interpret data of observations. Now specialists are faced by a task to create model of the World Ocean with spatial resolution, the best, than was used in model of the Caspian Sea.

2012: Start of MVS-10P - 523 Tflops

The MVS-10P supercomputer was let into JSCC RAS in December, 2012. He turns on 208 computing nodes based on 416 eight-nuclear Intel Xeon processors E5-2690 and the same number of Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors. A system works at liquid cooling and occupies the space in 20 sq.m.

In the rating of Top-50 of the most powerful supercomputers of Russia and the CIS of April 2, 2013 MVS-10P takes the second place. In the country in this rating Lomonosov set in MSU which high-speed performance makes 1.7 Pflops is registered as the most powerful supercomputer.

2013: The supercomputer of RAS searches for financing

The development plan for computing resources of the Interdepartmental supercomputer center RAS (JSCC RAS) read by his representatives at a press conference on April 5, 2013 assumes performance improvement of the most powerful system of the center — the MVS-10P supercomputer with high-speed performance in 523.8 Tflops - up to 1.45-2 Pflops in 2013 JSCC RAS read Plans for expansion of this system in 2012, however the issue with its financing in 2012 as of the beginning of April, 2013 is still not resolved.

Answering a question of TAdviser at a press conference on the necessary amount of funds for this expansion, the associate director JSCC RASBoris Shabanov designated the amount about 100 million rubles. He specified that this amount is relevant on condition of purchase of expansion of a system at her supplier — RSK company.

Shabanov also told the edition that already created target programs of RAS do not provide expenses on performance improvement of the supercomputer in 2013, however the RAS has a reserve on the budget from which MSTs tries to raise funds for these purposes.

According to the deputy director the center is ready to enclose JSCC RAS, a part of the amount, necessary on expansion, also from own budget which is already selected to it: in particular, from the budget on the program of target expenses, including, among other, a salary expenditure to the employees, and on the program of basic researches. "We try to take away as much as possible from there", - Boris Shabanov adds.
