2011: Infor buys Lowson Software for $2 billion

In March, 2011 Lowson Software was purchased by affiliated company Infor for 2 billion dollars. From Lowson 400 engineers will be transferred to the new company and also all product lines of Lowson will be integrated into a product portfolio of the new owner. Infor hopes that this transaction will open for it access to a segment of SMB.

Lawson holds strong position in segments of health care, state institutions, wholesale distribution, retail, production of food and drinks, services of lease of the equipment at this time. Infor is focused in the market of industrial enterprises of average scale and producers of the packed-up consumer goods. It is supposed that the transaction will allow Infor to strengthen positions in those segments in which the company competed with Lawson, such as health care, public sector and retail earlier.

According to observers, Microsoft which in 2010 earned 1.3 bln. dollars from the ERP market will be a main competitor of Infor. Positions of Microsoft strengthen investments into cloud computing. Though Infor and Lawson offer products on the Software as Service model and advance cloud strategy, in these directions they considerably lag behind Microsoft. But Infor promises to pay to cloud computing special attention and to offer customers all options of use of products: on site operation, in a cloud and according to the hybrid scenario.

2009: 3800 employees, 4 thousand clients in 40 countries

The headquarters of the company was located in the city of Saint Paul, State of Minnesota (USA). In the company 3.800 people work. Clients of Lawson are about 4.000 companies in 40 countries of the world.

The segment of personnel management systems (HRM system) was area in which Lawson Software is most competitive for 2009.

The Lawson company presents such solutions for business as:

  • Enterprise asset management, etc.

2008: Revenue growth for 14% to $851 million

In general for 2008 f. the company gained 851.8 million dollars of income (on GAAP) that is 14% more than last year's result (750.4 million dollars). Income from sale of licenses grew by a quarter and was 132.2 million dollars (105.9 million dollars last financial year). Income from a support and maintenance grew by 15% and was 336.8 million dollars. Consulting brought the companies of 383.0 million dollars, is 9% more, than last year. Net profit was 13.7 million dollars whereas last year losses of the company made 20.9 million dollars.

Also Lawson Software published results of the IV quarter and all 2008 financial year which came to the end on May 31. Income of the fourth quarter (on GAAP) was 233 million dollars that corresponds to 9% of growth (212.9 million dollars in the IV quarter 2007 f.). Income from sale of licenses grew by 3% and was 41.7 million dollars, and income from a support and maintenance of software products grew by 14% and reached 88.9 million dollars. Consulting revenues grew by 8% and reached 102.4 million dollars. Net profit was 3.7 million dollars (for the same period of last year profit was 8.1 million dollars).

According to Harry Debs (Harry Debes), the president and CEO Lawson, thanks to concentration of efforts on "verticals", key for the company, ended quarter became record on the volume of the signed contracts – more than 51 million dollars.

In the IV quarter the company signed 603 contracts (751 for the same period of last year) and purchased 38 new clients. The average cost of transactions increased from last year's 57 thousand dollars to 86 thousand dollars, and four contracts worth over 1 million dollars and 8 contracts for the amount from 500 thousand to 1 million dollars were signed.

The most part of income (52%) it was gained in the American region, the region of EMEA brought to 44% of income, and 4% - the Pacific Rim.

In the first quarter 2009 the company expects to receive from 195 to 200 million dollars, and for all 2009 financial year – 920-925 million dollars.

2006: Merge to Intentia International AB

On May 3, 2006 Lawson Software and the Swedish supplier of the corporate software of Intentia International AB began work as one company.

2005: Harry Debs becomes the head of Lawson Software

In 2005 Harry Debs leaves J.D. Edwards company (was a part of Oracle) and there is CEO Lawson Software.

2001: Buying up of software developers

Lawson Software became the public company in 2001 and began to purchase a number of small developer companies of the software to increase the number of offers for clients. These companies include Account4, Armature, Apexion, Closedloop, Keyola and Numbercraft. Lawson Software expanded the industry opportunities, having included other lines of service, such as retail transactions and supply chain management.

The 1990th: Client-server and ERP solutions

In the early nineties Lawson branched in the market the client-server and began to offer ERP solutions which were developed for the vertical markets, including health care, retail, financial services and public sector.

1980: Packets of the main book and human resources management

By 1980 the software of Lawson offered a number of packets of the main book and human resources, and by the end of decade the company extended on the growing IBM AS/400 market.

1975: Foundation of the company native of IBM

The company was founded in 1975 by Richard Lawson in Minneapolis, the State of Minnesota (USA) which developed a number of solutions for business management for the mainframe of IBM, ready to use.
