History

2022: Refusal to supply to Russia

In October 2022, Ledger, the largest manufacturer of cold crypto wallets, announced that they would no longer supply their products to Russia. The decision was made due to the sanctions imposed by the European Union against the background of the conflict in Ukraine.

2020: Data breach of a million users

Ledger, which produces hardware wallets for storing cryptocurrency, announced on its official website that the data of a million users was leaked. This became known on July 30, 2020. We are talking about the names of customers, their email and mail addresses, phone numbers and information about purchased products. Other important information, for example, payment data, information about bank cards and cryptocurrency accounts remain safe, the Ledger emphasized.

The company explained that hackers gained access to the database on July 25, 2020 using an API key. The company immediately fixed the vulnerability and conducted an internal investigation. The intrusion into the security system occurred three weeks earlier, on June 25. A third-party tool penetrated the marketing and e-commerce database using the API key.

Ledger employees clarified that the vulnerability has been fixed at the moment. They also recommended that hardware wallet owners prepare for possible phishing to the attacks and not disclose a secret phrase to anyone to restore access to storage.

Earlier, the manufacturer of "cold" cryptocurrency wallets Ledger reported vulnerabilities in the devices of its direct competitor Trezor. As reported in the company, security problems were discovered by specialists from its Attack Lab division, which checks the resistance to product hacks of both Ledger itself and its competitors[1].

2017: Raising $7 million in investments

In 2017, the developers attracted an investment of $7 million. The total capital raised since 2015 amounted to $8.5 million. Investments are used in the development of server devices for enterprises and built-in solutions for connected objects. Thus, manufacturers of portable wallets intend to "enter" the industry market of large corporate and industrial clients with their software.
