Change of the name of network storages Iomega

On June 13, 2013 LenovoEMC announced change of the name of the products Iomega and designations of the company. Rebranding is intended to emphasize partnership between two market leaders - Lenovo and EMC - and to put a basis for further development.

Since June, 2013 the existing network storages Iomega will be on sale in global market under the name of LenovoEMC joint venture, at the same time the Iomega brand will continue to designate consumer drives of initial level.

The line of high-performance network storages Lenovo for the professional sphere (earlier known as Iomega StorCenter px) includes three desktop models and three arrays with rack-mounting with a possibility of expansion to 48 TB:

  • the desktop drive with two disks Lenovo EMC px2-300d Network Storage;
  • the desktop drive with four disks Lenovo EMC px4-300d Network Storage;
  • the desktop drive with six disks Lenovo EMC px6-300d Network Storage;
  • array of Lenovo EMC px4-300r Network Storage Array;
  • array of Lenovo EMC px12-400r Network Storage Array;
  • flagman array of Lenovo EMC px12-450r Network Storage Array.

The line of consumer network storages Lenovo includes one one-disk Lenovo Iomega EZ Media and Backup Center model (earlier known as Iomega EZ Media and Backup Center) and two models of network storages of the Lenovo Iomega ix series (before Iomega StorCenter ix): the desktop drive with two disks Lenovo Iomega ix2-300d Network Storage and with four disks Lenovo Iomega ix4-300d Network Storage.

The arrangement with Acronis on deliveries of the software for network storages Lenovo became one of new agreements.

Creation of the joint venture with Lenovo: LenovoEMC

In January, 2013 EMC created the joint venture with Lenovo called LenovoEMC to which transferred business of earlier absorbed Iomega company.

This enterprise provides expansion of strategic partnership in the field of production of servers of standard architecture and network solutions of data storage. The new joint venture which merged in itself key assets of division of EMC begins to release under the general brand network systems of storage (Network Attached Storage, NAS) for the enterprises with the distributed structure, branches and the companies of small and medium business.

In addition to creation of joint venture global strategic partnership of Lenovo and EMC is directed also to program implementation of technology development of servers of x86, program of cooperation with OEM manufacturing and resellers for promotion of solutions of data storage of EMC.

EMC and Lenovo are shareholders of LenovoEMC, at the same time the controlling stake belongs to Lenovo company. The described partnership is not considered as the essential factor affecting results of financial year of both companies.

LenovoEMC offers the customers a line of the innovation desktop and rack network systems of data storage. Network attached storages under the name of Iomega from LenovoEMC are delivered in different complete sets – from diskless to completely completed systems with a capacity of 48 Tbyte.

A series of Iomega StorCenter ix devices and a series of high-performance network systems of data storage px includes one - two - four - and the six-disk models available in the diskless version which are partially filled with disks or fully completed. Disk arrays of the ix and px series of rack execution are issued in six - and 12-disk-based version, and also can be delivered without disks, in parts or in full completed with the drives HDD of a consumer class or the disks SATA HDD of a server class (depending on model). Users can also set on network systems of storage of LenovoEMC own HDD.

2011: 425 million devices are sold

From the moment of foundation in 1980 till July, 2011 the company sold more than 425 million digital devices and disks for information storage.

For July, 2011 product assortment of Iomega includes network attached storages of data for home users and small business, a wide choice of external hard drives and also the multimedia drives ScreenPlay simplifying video transmission, photos and other files from the computer in an office on the TV in the living room.

2008: EMC absorbs Iomega for $213 million.

On April 8, 2008 EMC Corporation announced takeover plans of Iomega company for $213 million. The transaction was closed in June, 2008 therefore Iomega became division of EMC on work with the companies of small and medium business. EMC saved the Iomega brand for such products as a line of StorCenter NAS, ScreenPlay the TV Link and v.Clone adapter is software for virtualization
