On December 5, 2017 it became known of purchase of the American Mashable IT portal by Ziff Davis media holding. Transaction amount appeared five times the low price at which earlier the portal was estimated by experts. According to Recode, purchase of Mashable cost Ziff Davis less than $50 million though during an investment attraction round in 2016 the edition was estimated at $250 million.

Revenue development and Mashable profits/losses

As it became known later, Mashable was burdened by big long-term payments on lease of offices in New York for Los Angeles, San Francisco, London and Singapore in which 2016 $3.7 million were spent. According to documents, in three months preceding sale to the company more than $470 thousand were spent for trips, a power supply and entertainments of her employees.

The most part of costs fell on lease of flagman office Mashable at Union Square, in a New yorskom the Area of Manhattan located in one building with other digital publishing houses, such as The Intercept and GMG. According to neighbors, Mashable paid for this office much more, than competitors of the comparable size.

The Ziff Davis media holding intends to dismiss about 50 people from staff of Mashable, at the same time the founder of Mashable Pete Cashmore will remain in the company. Read more here.
