Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF)

Company

The consortium MEF is the industrial alliance integrating more than 210 telecom operators and the technology companies from 43 countries. Efforts of participants of community are concentrated on formation of a full-fledged network architecture of the future which MEF calls 'Third Network' ("Network of third generation").

'Third Network' is the cornerstone a paradigm of Network-as-a-Service/Naas – creation of the flexible customer-oriented infrastructure answering to three key criteria – the speed of providing service, quality control of the rendered services and connection process automation. For the solution of this task, MEF describes three components of "network of third generation" which include network management as a single platform, cloud approach to creation of infrastructure of service provider and deployment of network services (the so-called concept of 'Telco Cloud') and multilevel automation technology and business processes.

Also MEF actively works on creation of a multiple model of orchestration of a service life cycle (Lifecycle Service Orchestration). LSO connects all parts of infrastructure in a uniform point of management which coordinates actions at connection of service, exercises quality control and compliances to security requirements.

At the same time the consortium specifies SDN and NFV technologies as the integral tools for the embodiment of the concept in life.

2016: Brain4Net became the first Russian participant of consortium MEF

Brain4Net, the developer of solutions for Metro-networks based on technologies SDN and NFV, became the participant of consortium MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum). The company, together with participants of community, will work on expansion of the Carrier Ethernet 2.0 standards for application in SDN networks, the principles of providing the automated network services and development of operator networks of new generation.

Brain4Net is going to exchange with participants of MEF experience in area of implementation of Carrier Ethernet 2.0 services based on the OpenFlow protocol. Besides, examination of the company in the field of virtualization of network functions (NFV) and orchestration of complex services will allow to strengthen the focal MEF groups, engaged in development of an infrastructure component of 'Third Network'.

Also Brain4Net plans participation in the focus groups of consortium devoted to questions of development of the complex LSO model. Representatives of community MEF in cooperation with experts of the company should develop uniform approach to orchestration of a service life cycle and to develop API for integration of SDN/NFV of solutions into the OSS/BSS systems of new generation. Use of the examination received during creation of own solutions will help to simplify integration of the platform into business processes of service provider.
