Oce which is based in the Netherlands the company which develops makes and sells the printing and copy equipment and the corresponding software. The offer includes printing house and copyings of a system, production of printers and the printing systems, a wide format for technical documentation and graphics color displays.

The company was founded in 1877. With the headquarters in Venlo, the Netherlands, Océ works more than in 100 countries and totals more than 21000 employees worldwide.

In 2010 Océ was purchased by Canonyaponii company.

History

Background

Activity of the company began in 1877 as family business in production of machines for coloring of oil and margarine. The founder of the company is a chemist Lodevidzh van der Grinten. In 1930 margarine of the plants Jürgens and Van den Bergh and Angliyskiye Lever Brothers integrated to become Unilever. From 1877 to 1972, are used by Unilever only the coloring made at the Venlo plant.

In 1919 when the grandson Lodevidzhika, Louis van der Grinten, became interested in the process used for production of the large-format drawings used in construction, production, etc. At that time, paper was extremely light-sensitive and therefore had very short term of storage before use. Louis invented a covering which made paper better, with storage life about one year. It is considered the first step of the company in ensuring document flow.

Milestones of the company

1919: Louis van der Grinten conducted researches of materials in the market. Development of paper, exceeding the former sensitive paper became break.

1927: Louis van der Grinten invents bezammiachny diazo-process of copying for technical drawings. Unlike the previous works, the new document had so-called azo no components. To emphasize this convenient aspect in comparison with competitors, Van der Grinten calls paper of OS (Ohne Componente).

1927: On the local stock exchange demanded reduction of the name, the company was renamed into Océ, OS based on the German initials for "Ohne Componente" (without parts). This the name became a brand and is registered as the trademark in 1930.

1930: Introduction of "Combine", the machine which combines copying functions - development and drying. Before Combine introduction, two separate machines were necessary for copying.

1956: Jan van Susant was the first person, because of family limits Van der Grinten who was a part of council of Océ in 1956. It took Océ on Share exchange and provided further expansion with acquisitions across the whole Europe.

1957: Andeno creation. This company was 100 percent subsidiary company and Océ developed diazo chemicals for Océ, but also chemicals for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. In later times Océ sold the company to the Dutch chemical concern DSMV 1986.

1958: The first foreign companies were open in Germany, Mülheim. It was followed by acquisition in Sweden, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Italy and France. As a result, Océ are created operating companies in all these countries.

1966: Océ 4800 was started. This high-speed machine gave to Océ access to a new segment of the market - office real estate. The equipment, made 4800 copies per hour and it could be used by ship agents and forwarding agents who were necessary to the copy of numerous importo-export documents in a short period.

1966: With acquisition of "Photasia" the company increased the group size approximately by 60 percent. In relative expression it was one of two largest acquisitions in the history of Océ.


1967: the company entered the market of office printing with the electro-photographic processor for copying of documents using the special, chemically processed paper. The plant for production own the equipment is also started.

1969: Transition from electrofax technology to electro photographic technology for the market of office real estate.

1973: Start of Océ 1700, the first simple copier of paper. Instead of a drum in 1700 Océ was used a difficult zigzag of an infinite tape. The technology differs from true xerographic reproduction that it does not use the developer, uses less electrostatic charges in engine printing, maintains low melting temperatures, and, presumably, minimizes ozone emissions. Soon after that, the company also developed the application for large-format printing.

1978: Acquisition of the British Ozalid Group Holdings Ltd, Ozalid developer of process of reproduction and also the largest competitor of Océ in the market of printing diazo. With this acquisition the company became the world leader in the field of a printed material for engineering the market.

1984: Start of the first large format copier.

1990: The beginning of recovery work for parts of machines in mounting department in Venlo. Components were removed and installed in other machines, after a part were carefully cleaned.

1996: Acquisition of Siemens-Nixdorf.

1997: The company is renamed in the Wasp of N.V.

2005: Acquisition of the American Imagistics International, reseller of office photocopiers and multi-function printers. For Océ it is the most large deal today. On the basis from Trumbull, the State of Connecticut, this separation is focused on providing copy, fax machines and the corresponding document management software for the companies of all sizes. The North American companies make a considerable part of annual percent of sales of Océ today.

2006: The first printer with the cutsheet Océ function. Using this technology it is possible to print along with both parties of the sheet, saving at the same time 100% of exact registration and offset quality.

2007: Celebration of 130 years of stay in business from a symposium in Venlo, the Netherlands where the main headquarters of the company is located. Business partners of the company were congratulated on advertizing in the American magazine, Wall Street Journal.

2008: Implementation of Océ CrystalPoint technology. Process of Océ CrystalPoint will transform Océ TonerPearls color of a toner to gel. It is tonergel then crystallizes on any type of paper, making sharp, high-quality images with extremely exact placement points.

2009: Canon and Océ announced on November 16, 2009 that they reached the conditional agreement on consolidation of activity of printing through complete self-financing, a public offer of cash Canon for all the Stock Océ. Canon and Océ the purpose of creation of the general No. 1 of presence at the polygraphic industry, relying on expansion of scale and the combined histories of innovations and excellent customer service. On March 4, 2010 the offer was announced unconditional and Océ and Canon integrated the forces.

Small a format (to A3)

Cutsheet of the equipment, can be used by all organization types for printing of documents, such as presentations, letters and reports which are printed as a part to daily practice of office.

Examples of Océ cutsheet printers: 6000 Océ of the VarioPrint and Océ CS series 1x3 series.

Large-format (it is more than A3)

The printing equipment generally on paper can be used for printing of technical documentation. A target group of these printers (the All-Russia Exhibition Centre of PlotWave 300 and Océ ColorWave 600) are, for example, architects, design offices, construction companies, telecommunication and utility companies.

The printing equipment on different carriers, such as paper, vinyl, fabric, glass and a tile. Examples of printers in this Océ Arizona segment of a series; Océ CS of series 9xxx and Océ ColorWave 600.

Business services

These operational services can be separated into three different types of activity. First it is basic services of documents, such as mail and managements of printing, scanning, archiving and services of the upper publication. Besides there are additional services, such as control of group of printers, digital post offices, printing on demand, creative services and management of documents in legal procedures. At last - outsourcing of documents, such as insurance policy.

Acquisitions and partnership

In 1978 Océ purchased the British Ozalid Group Holdings Ltd, Ozalid developer of process of reproduction and also the largest competitor of Océ in the market of printing. With this acquisition the company to the Wasp became the world leader in the field of a printed material for the engineering market.

In 1989 Océ purchased the plotter of business of the French company Schlumberger.

In 1990 Océ was purchased American by Bryuning company. Bryuning was at that time the largest equipment supplier for plotters and paper in the USA. Bryuning became a core of the fact that now the Océ-USA.

In 1995 the company came to very high speed, high volume of printing when purchased department of the German computer company Siemens-Nixdorf. This division makes the printers capable to make more than 1000 prints a minute. Applications documents, such as phone bills and bank account statements.

In 1997 Océ purchased Cleveland, specializing in electronic program ensuring management of documents for formation of Oce Groupware of technologies.

In 2000 Océ purchased Espace Graphique, the French distributor of the large-format equipment of display of graphics.

In 2001 the company purchased professional department of visualization of the Swiss Gretag Imaging Group, producer of a large-format printing equipment of viewings.

In 2005 purchase of the American Imagistics International, reseller of office photocopiers and multi-function printers. The organization specializing on direct sales of faxes and photocopiers.

In 2006 he purchased the American CaseData, the leading supplier of electronic services for law firms and corporations of the USA.

In 2007 Océ created partnership with Fujifilm which sells to the OEM version of Océ Arizona 250 GT the tablet printer in Japan.

In 2007 partnership between Océ and Prisma Software Corporation began.

In 2007 Océ and Videk, as well as reported, announced new cooperation.

In 2008 Océ and Konica Minolta signed the agreements covering exchange of technologies and the general programs of sales.

In 2009 Canon and Océ announced that they reached the conditional agreement on consolidation of the activity of printing using complete self-financing

On March 9, 2010 the offer was announced unconditional and Océ and Canon integrated the forces.
