2019: Cyber attack to the system of service of airplanes

At the end of December, 2019 the RavnAir airline cancelled nearly 20 runs on Alaska in the middle of the festive Christmas travel. Cyber attack to the system of service of airplanes became the reason.

The airline services more than 100 settlements on Alaska, it is impossible to reach many of which by the motor transport. Because of cyber attack air traffic with Homer, Kenai, Kodiak and other cities was broken. The regional carrier cancelled all runs by the Dash 8 airplanes, "because cyber attack forced us to disconnect the system of service Dash 8 and its backup copy", representatives of the company explained in the written application. According to the press secretary of the company Debbie Reinwand, change of the schedule concerned about 260 passengers.

RavnAir Alaska reported that it addressed FBI, other authorities and the company on ensuring cyber security for recovery of the systems of service. Later the airline announced that the normal runs Dash-8 were recovered though more than three days later after cyber attack some airplanes were removed from the schedule. RavnAir explained that at least within a week normal work will be periodically interrupted because of checks of IT network.

We will try to add whenever possible additional runs during the next two days, says the company. — The passengers who were left in the basket will have an opportunity to use other runs.

Other passengers are offered to undergo normal registration for any interesting run, and at emergence of questions to contact call center of RavnAir. Debbie Reynvand also reported that the runs PenAir and RavnAir Connect still run smoothly on the standby systems of service which are not affected by cyber attack.[1]
