2023: US sanctions lifted

Ministry of Finance The United States will lift sanctions on Kazakhstan's Bereke Bank, which was previously a subsidiary of Sberbank. The reason for this decision is that now the bank is completely owned by a Kazakh company. Sberbank previously reported that it had decided to withdraw from the Kazakh market, guided by the current geopolitical situation and acting in the interests of the clients of the subsidiary bank.

Baiterek is an integrated development institute aimed at supporting entrepreneurship, the development of the agro-industrial complex and providing housing for the country's population. The ultimate beneficiary of the holding is the government of Kazakhstan.[1]

A new head of Sberbank's subsidiary in Kazakhstan has been appointed

Against the background of sanctions against Sberbank, customers withdrew 38% of their funds from it

As of the end of May 2022, clients of the Kazakh subsidiary of Sberbank withdrew about 38% of their funds from it due to sanctions. According to the reports, at the end of 2021, the funds of individuals amounted to 1.06 trillion tenge (155.37 million rubles), corporate clients - 1.59 trillion tenge (233.8 million rubles).

People's Bank of Kazakhstan bought out Sberbank Kazakhstan's loan portfolio for 330 billion tenge

The People's Bank of Kazakhstan (Halyk Bank) bought out the loan portfolio of Kazakhstan's subsidiary Sberbank for 330 billion tenge (about $733.5 million at the exchange rate as of April 13, 2022 - the day when the deal became known). It is specified that under the cession agreement, part of the loan portfolio of Sberbank's retail clients was purchased, including car loans issued under the concessional lending program of the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, as well as part of unsecured loans, loans for urgent needs and mortgage loans.

The People's Bank of Kazakhstan (Halyk Bank) bought out the loan portfolio of Kazakhstan's subsidiary Sberbank for 330 billion tenge.

It is noted that the conditions for the current loans of Sberbank Kazakhstan customers (balance of credit debt, loan term, monthly payment and lending rate) will remain unchanged, and the loan assignment will not entail additional costs for the client. Also, the assignment of loan rights will not affect the borrower's credit history if they are not violated by monthly payments on the principal and payments on accrued interest. The date of monthly repayment on the schedule remains unchanged. Thus, for customers whose loans were transferred to Halyk Bank, nothing changes.

As of April 1, the loan portfolio of consumer loans of the credit institution Sberbank Kazakhstan amounted to 1.1 trillion tenge (about $2.4 billion).[2]

As of 01.12.2011 The Bank's assets grew by 66.3% and amounted to KZT470.2 billion. Deposits of legal entities increased by 95.8% and amounted to 314.6 billion tenge, deposits of individuals increased by 89.6% and amounted to 64.3 billion tenge. Equity amounted to KZT50.1 billion. On net income as of 01.12.11 The bank is in 4th place (7.4 billion tenge). Net profit of the bank is 7.4 billion tenge.

2007: Obtaining a license

In 2007, the Bank obtained a license to conduct banking and other operations carried out by banks in national and foreign currencies. In the same year, the authorized capital of the Bank was increased almost 15 times and amounted to 29 billion tenge (more than 240 million dollars), which allowed DB Sberbank JSC to become one of the 10 largest banks of the Republic of Kazakhstan in terms of authorized capital.

2006: Sberbank acquires TexakaBank

The history of the Subsidiary Bank of Sberbank of Russia in Kazakhstan begins at the end of 2006, when Sberbank of Russia, the flagship of the Russian financial system, the largest financial institution in Central and Eastern Europe, acquires a 99.99% stake in TexakaBank, recognized as the bank with the best level of customer service according to National Business magazine.
