6.78 points from 10 in the second quarter as part of the sustainable development program

On September 26, 2019, Schneider Electric announced the results of its operations. Schneider Electric published more than 20 indicators characterizing the company's progress in meeting the commitments made under the 2018-2020 Sustainable Development Program in line with the goals and decisions of the United Nations and COP21.

According to the company, based on an interim result of 6.78 points out of 10 in Q2 2019, the company is expected to reach the Schneider Sustainability Impact target of 7 points by the end of the year.

Key achievements for the quarter:

  • Climate - from the beginning of 2018 to the second quarter of 2019, Schneider Electric, thanks to energy efficiency solutions and the competent realization of the potential of renewable energy sources, helped its customers prevent the release of 70 million tons of carbon dioxide. Quantifying the benefits of reducing CO2 emissions is considered an important part of the strategy to promote the environmental approach. In this regard, Schneider Electric has developed a methodology for measuring carbon dioxide emissions, which is designed to become an industry standard applicable to all manufacturers of durable goods. It is a practical, reliable and flexible measurement method that has been verified by an independent organization and can be implemented in any company.
  • The circular economy - the Zero Waste to Landfill (TZWL) initiative is actively developing - this quarter another 7 Schneider Electric production sites joined the program. The company plans to transfer 200 enterprises to waste-free production by 2020, therefore, as of September 2019, Schneider Electric is actively developing waste management programs, initiating the transition from basic processing to advanced solutions for reusing materials and reducing them in general. For example, one of Schneider Electric's facilities in Mexico, together with suppliers, introduced an innovative closed logistics process that already this year prevented the emergence of more than 800 tons of waste, thereby reducing the actual generation of garbage to less than 400 tons.
  • Health and Equality - Schneider Electric focuses on employee welfare and health. By 2020, the company plans to provide 90% of employees with access to comprehensive employee welfare programs in the workplace. To do this, firstly, it is necessary to train employees to manage various aspects of work and personal life, and secondly, to ensure access to a comprehensive standard of health insurance for workers and their family members. The results of this initiative will be published at the end of the year.
  • Ethics - the indicator of the average score of the international standard of social responsibility ISO26000 for strategic suppliers increased by 0.5 points compared to the end of 2018. According to the ISO26000, the Ecovadis supplier rating is a key part of integrating the sustainability strategy into Schneider Electric's supply chain. The Company strives to constantly improve the legal framework in the field of ecology, ethics and labor, as well as support the initiatives of strategic partners. Thus, Schneider Electric's average supplier index rose 2.3 points for the second quarter of 2019 compared to the end of 2017, reaching 53.4/100, one of the highest in the Ecovadis ranking. In May 2019, Schneider Electric launched an anti-corruption online education campaign. In the first month, 14% of employees underwent training, and according to the plan, by the end of 2019, this figure should be 100%. Employees potentially at risk of corruption were required to undergo an educational program annually, and the number of positions in this category doubled.
  • Development - in the first half of 2019, the turnover under the "Access to Energy" program of Schneider Electric increased 1.42 times compared to the results of the same period in 2017. Such results were achieved, in particular, in Southeast Asia, where home solar systems were distributed (solar panels for supplying electricity to residential buildings), and in West Africa, where Schneider Electric distributes educational materials as part of the EU project "Women's Entrepreneurship in Renewable power." The aim is to provide technical training for women entrepreneurs, mainly in the field of solar power, in three countries: Mali, Senegal and Niger. Within three years, the education program will benefit 4,650 small and medium-sized enterprises with female executives, which will also positively affect the economic development of the regions.

Intention to reduce CO2 emissions to zero

On December 27, 2018, Schneider Electric announced that it promises to reduce CO2 emissions to zero by 2030.

File:Aquote1.png
Climate change is extremely worrying, but there are companies that can make a positive contribution to solving this problem. We are at a tipping point of limiting global warming, keeping it at no more than 2C above pre-industrial significance. This should help avoid a major environmental disaster. Decisions made are critical to ensuring sustainable, long-term development. We at Schneider Electric are convinced that a combination of sustainability and innovation can already be realized.
File:Aquote2.png

The Company is ramping up ambitious plans and strengthening its commitments to combat climate change through three complementary initiatives:

  • Until 2020: Meet 21 environmental commitments under Schneider Sustainability Impact's "environmental impact barometer."
  • By 2030, achieve the "carbon neutrality" of its businesses in a single industrial ecosystem covering both suppliers and customers. To do this, Schneider Electric will:
