2022

As of August 2022, Segway-Ninebot products are sold in more than 225 countries and regions.

2015: Company is bought out by China's Ninebot

In April 2015, it became known that Ninebot bought its American rival Segway. The value of the transaction was not disclosed, but for its conduct Ninebot received funding from a number of large investment companies in the amount of $80 million.

When Segway and Ninebot completed the strategic merger in 2015, Segway-Ninebot, a global venture in smart vehicles and service robots, was born.

2013: Segway sold to investment company

In 2013, Segway was bought by investment firm Summit Strategic Investments for an unnamed amount.

2001: American inventor sets up company

Segway was created in 2001 by inventor Dean Kamen. At first, her two-wheeled scooters caused a stir and were very popular. They began to be purchased by the American police to patrol the streets, travel companies to conduct excursions, golf clubs to move players around the course. However, this type of transport was not in great demand among ordinary consumers due to its price and a number of restrictions in American cities on movement on such scooters.
