2018: Creation of a method of a stretch of wires between power transmission line support using drones

The American operator of the SkySkopes unmanned aerial vehicles specializing in maintenance of objects of power developed the innovation method of a stretch of wires between power transmission line support using drones. In June, 2018 the CNBC TV channel reported about it.

As a rule, aerial wires of an electricity transmission are pulled by assemblers, rising by power transmission line support, or for this purpose involve helicopters. Both methods are integrated to a significant risk for people. According to The Associated Press, in April, 2018 in northeast Pennsylvania the helicopter participating in mounting works of wires of the power transmission line crashed. As a result of accident two assemblers died, the pilot was wounded.[1]

Using drones pulled power transmission line wires

Use of the UAV instead of helicopters for a stretch of wires of the power transmission line allows to reduce significantly risks for personnel and the cost of works. According to SkySkopes, monetary economy makes about 25%.[2]

The new mounting technique of the power transmission line using drones was for the first time successfully tested in practice in September, 2017. SkySkopes together with the solutions UAV developer for inspection of power plants from Sharper Shape air used it in the project on construction of a high-voltage transmission line. Also the geksakopter of Sharper A6 of Sharper Shape company was used for accomplishment of a task.

It is a magnificent experiment in which we proved that UAVs can be used for a stretch of overhead power transmission lines. Installation of wires of the power transmission line by means of helicopters, as well as raising of employees on support are connected with risk. Now there was one more alternative method which security was confirmed by Sharper Shape and SkySkopes — Matt Dunlevy, the CEO and the president of SkySkopes said.[3]

According to CNBC, by June, 2018 the SkySkopes company looks for opportunities for application of a method in larger scales.
