History

The STATISTICA system is developed by the StatSoft Inc. company founded in 1984 in the city of Tulsa (Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA). The first software products - PsyhoStat-2.3 - were focused on statistical analysis of sociological data. The first commercial product - Statistical Supplement for Lotus 1-2-3, appeared in 1985.

Since 1985 rapid growth of firm began. StatSoft releases the first system of statistical analysis for Macintosh Apple computers under the name StatFast and a statistical packet for IBM PC under the name STATS+. In 1986 work on a base line of software products of firm - the integrated statistical packets for complex data processing begins.

In 1991 there is the first version of the STATISTICA for DOS system which represents the new direction of development of the statistical software. In it the so-called graphic focused approach to data analysis is implemented. This packet had a number of essential advantages over other statistical packets (due to optimization it was succeeded to achieve data processing fall forward more than by 10 times in comparison with other packets; the packet could work actually with unlimited amount of data). In 1992 there was a version of STATISTICA for Macintosh which quickly purchased deserved popularity among users.

In 1994 there is a version of STATISTICA for Windows. It at once holds a leading position among statistical packets. As a result of comparative testing she receives the first place in the following scientific and computer publications: Medical Software Reviews (2/9), INSIGHT (Mai, 1994), MacWELT (the German edition of the MacWORLD magazine, October, 1994), C’T Magazine (the German analog of the BYTE magazine, March, 1994), WINDOWS Magazine (November, 1994) where STATISTICA 4.5 was compared to statistical packets of BMDP 1.0, SPSS 6.1, Statgraphics 1.0, Systat 5.01. In 1995 STATISTICA was included in number 100 of the best software products (WINDOWS Magazine, February, 1995).

At the end of 1995 there was a version of STATISTICA 5.0 compatible to Windows 95/NT. In this version a large number of new statistical procedures for work with data and graphics and also the convenient multifunction text editor of reports was implemented. Unlike the previous versions STATISTICA 5.0 includes the internal STATISTICA Basic programming language which considerably expanded functionality of a system. An opportunity to complete (to increase) a system by means of the built-in programming language (from which it is possible to cause also any external library DLL) is the undoubted advantage of a packet.

In 1996-98 new releases of a packet – STATISTICA 5.1, 5.1-97 and 5.1-98 appeared. New specialized modules were added to a system, all new Windows and MS Office formats are considered, different additions and improvements are made.

In 1999 StatSoft left the new, improved and optimized version of STATISTICA 5.5 in which algorithms of creation of difficult models were implemented (GLM - General Linear Models, GSR - General Stepwise Regression, GLZ - Generalized Linear Models and PLS - Partial Least Squares). In the same time a number of corporate products of the STATISTICA series was released. STATISTICA 5.5 system. it was translated into Russian by forces of the Russian office StatSoft.

2001 was marked by an exit of new generation of the software products of the STATISTICA 6 series compatible to Windows NT/2000/XP. STATISTICA 6 is founded on the most modern technologies and more than 100 different schedule types are implementation of more than 10,000 different statistical procedures and methods of a research and also. In this version the STATISTICA Visual Basic programming language allowing to customize a system under spetsilizirovanny tasks is implemented, beginning from record of simple macroes and finishing with development of difficult applications based on STATISTICA.

Different options of an output of results are provided to STATISTICA 6: multimedia tables, reports and workbooks. Reports can automatically be created and remain in the rtf, doc, HTML and PDF formats.

STATISTICA 6 is completely compatible to standards of Microsoft. These are first of all standards of the user interface - MDI, use of DDE technologies - dynamic data exchange from other applications, OLE - binding and implementations of objects, support of the main transactions with a clipboard, etc.

The packet of STATISTICA totals more than 350 thousand registered users around the world. There are versions of a system on German, French, Japanese, Spanish, Polish and other languages. The STATISTICA 6 system is completely translated by forces of the Russian office StatSoft into Russian, including the interface, documentation and the reference guide.

2014: Dell expands the Big Data service portfolio from StatSoft

The Dell company purchased in the spring of 2014 the StatSoft company developing Big Data technologies. Matt Uolken, the CEO on information management of Dell Software, said that it will allow the company to expand the provided services from this area in the conditions of demand growing on them. According to Paul Leviki, the founder of StatSoft, the created solutions on work with Big Data can be used in business for risk management, identification of frauds, research and search of new opportunities for sales. He considers that the company will benefit from the transaction due to the support given Dell in the market.

"Together with Dell we can give to our clients new opportunities according to the analysis of Big Data. Activity of many companies is based on them now", – he said. The solutions StatSoft are considered as simple and available, but at the same time suit even to large corporations. Transaction amount is not disclosed.
