2020: MTS purchased Stopol of car

On June 22, 2020 MTS announced acquisition of Stopol of a Car and Koagent Rus companies which became a basis for the new business direction of the telecommunication operator — development of automobile technologies.

Within MTS of Automotive  multimedia devices and onboard information systems for cars will be developed and delivered. Both firms purchased by MTS develop multimedia solutions for a car. Their partners are such car makers as Toyota, Renault and Nissan working in Russia and also software developers, including "Yandex" and "Navitel".

Acquisition of suppliers of multimedia devices will allow MTS to receive examination, necessary resources and presence in the market of solutions of smart cars — the senior vice president of MTS by client experience Vyacheslav Nikolaev said.

What amount was paid by MTS for purchase of 100% in authorized capitals of Stopol of a Car and Koagent Rus companies, is not reported. Often MTS opens financial conditions of transactions in annual accounts.

MTS intends to use developments of these startups for the solution of several tasks among which:

  • provision of cars high-speed mobile access to network;
  • testing of a 5G networks;
  • creation of opportunities of smart insurance and monitoring based on M2M- and IoT-technologies;
  • integration of digital entertaining, information and payment services with automobile multimedia complexes.

According to Vyacheslav Nikolaev, entry of MTS into the market of the smart multimedia systems for cars is complementary multiproduct strategy the company and to creation around the client of an ecosystem of digital services. A multimedia system he added to a car — one of the last unoccupied MTS of the digital show-windows allowing to interact constantly with the user.[1]
