JSC Techsnabexport (TENEX) - the operator of the world market of goods and services of a nuclear fuel cycle providing more than 40% of requirements of the foreign NPPs of the western design for services in uranium enrichment. The company has 47 years' experience of the foreign trade activity. 100% of stocks of Society belong to JSC Atomenergoprom - affiliated enterprise of ROSATOM State Corporation.
Export of the uranium products made by the Russian YaTTs enterprises
JSC Tekhsnabeksport performs deliveries of the enriched uranium product (EUP) and also services in conversion and/or uranium enrichment made by the enterprises of nuclear sector of Russia to all key regional segments of the world market.
Customers of products delivered to JSC Tekhsnabeksport are over 30 companies from 16 countries of the world. For quality improvement and efficiency of service of customers of JSC Tekhsnabeksport the network of foreign sales subsidiary companies in the target regional markets is created.
Transport and logistic ensuring deliveries
Questions of reliability augmentation of deliveries, minimization of delivery dates of products to the customer and cutting of costs for its transportation – in focus of permanent attention of JSC Tekhsnabeksport.
Shipments for export by the marine transport are made mainly through seaport of St. Petersburg with attraction for forwarding service of loads of JSC SPb IZOTOP – the child organization JSC Tekhsnabeksport.
The company implements the project of use of a new route of transportation of uranium products to customers from Asia-Pacific countries through the Russian Far East: in 2012-2013 JSC Tekhsnabeksport in the pilot mode successfully performs deliveries from the East port in Primorsky Krai of Russia to Japan and the Republic of Korea.
JSC Tekhsnabeksport creates the world's second own park of protective covers of UX-30 model of production of Columbiana Hi Tech LLC company (344 units) and the park of own 30B containers (274 units) of production of CIMC company (People's Republic of China).
Use of own transport equipment allows to minimize equipment rent costs at the foreign transport-forwarding companies at implementation of export-import transactions.
2013: The new contract for enrichment in Russia of the American uranium
In the 2013th signed the new contract — now on enrichment in Russia of the American uranium. However, there was a legal difficulty: supply of natural uranium from the USA to Russia was prohibited by the American laws. The Washington officials found the brilliant solution: they organized purchase by Rosatom of the Canadian company Uranium One developing mines in Australia, Canada, Kazakhstan, the Republic of South Africa, Tanzania.
As a result Rosatom found not only the channel for trade with the USA bypassing restrictions, but also a huge source of raw materials.
As for several decades the lion share of requirements of the American nuclear power plants for services in uranium enrichment was provided by Tekhsnabeksport, Americans practically lost the corresponding competences. And the Westinghouse corporation is forced to fill fuel assemblies for reactors or the European uranium which is purchased from the British German-Dutch concern URENCO or Russian, deliverable Tekhsnabeksport.
It is obvious that for transition to complete self-sufficiency by nuclear fuel the States should spend a lot of time and money and also to solve a set of problems, and not only technical.
One, for example, is connected with the fact that extraction of uranium — extremely not eco-friendly production using huge volumes of poisonous chemicals. So implementation of plans of the Ministry of Energy of the USA without fail will face protests of the population and green movements.
1994: The agreement with the USA on processing of weapon uranium in fuel for the NPP
Excesses of the Soviet low-enriched uranium quickly ended, but thanks to reduction of an arsenal of atomic weapons at Russia 500 tons of the free weapon (highly enriched) uranium extracted from the dismantled nuclear ammunition were formed. There was an idea 'dilute' it, having turned into fuel for the American nuclear power plants.
In 1994 Russia and the USA signed the contract on transformation of five hundred tons of weapon uranium into fuel for power plants (the appropriate technology was developed by specialists of the Ural electrochemical plant).
1987: Start of export of the enriched uranium to the USA
In the 1980th the atomic industry of the USA faced problems. So it developed historically that in the USA uranium was enriched on ineffective and expensive gas-diffusion technology, and in the USSR — on the centrifuges requiring 50 times less than the electric power.
Therefore right after the end of Cold War Americans passed to the Russian enriched uranium — it was 12 times cheaper. The deliveries begun still by Soviet Tekhsnabeksport in 1987 constantly increased.
