UOP

Company

UOP — developer of technologies for oil processing, petrochemistry and gas processing. More than 40 years the company is engaged in improvement of the know-how on design and production of the membrane systems for gas purification and extraction from it target components. UOP is not just the largest producer of the similar systems, but also the only manufacturer of membrane modules in the world on the basis of polovolokonny membranes of PolysepT (purification of hydrogen and synthesis gas) and also the rolled Separex elements which were widely used in preparation of natural and associated gas.

UOP has rich history in Russia. In 1931 the outstanding Soviet scientist Vladimir Ipatyev joined the company. He headed research division and invented the catalyst on the basis of solid phosphoric acid which allowed to gain a bigger access of gasoline from crude oil. In 1937 UOP signed with the Soviet Union the first contract for polymerization of the plants in Ufa, Saratov and Grozny using the technology developed by Vladimir Ipatyev.

In 1993 the Rosneft company licensed the developed UOP technology of a yunikreking for increase in production of diesel fuel in Russia. Since 1991 the number of the installations licensed by UOP in Russia and the CIS countries increased to 450.

UOP Honeywell took out the record number of patents in 2015

The UOP company which is a part of Honeywell announced that during 2015 671 patents for new inventions, including 247 inventions in the USA were globally taken out. Both of these indicators became record for UOP conducting the developer and the licensor of technologies for the enterprises of oil processing, petrochemical and gas-processing industries for more than hundred years.

Practically all new patents belong to inventions using which hydrocarbons are more effectively processed into transport fuels and petrochemical products, allowing to use more effectively oil and natural gas as raw materials and together with it to consume less energy.

Many inventions belong to the technology of hydrocracking which is the most commonly accepted method of production of diesel and aviation fuel, and the hydrotreating used for removal of sulfur and other contaminating impurity in oil refining processes. These advanced catalytic processes are used for production of more effective, purely burning down fuels conforming to regulatory requirements on emissions of harmful substances which become more and more tough, especially in the USA, the countries of Europe, in China and in India.

The company also took out a large number of patents for more effective production of aromatic hydrocarbons which are used for production of synthetic pitches, films and fibers and also as blending components for the purpose of increase in octane number of gasoline, along with olefins, principal components of synthetic polymers which find thousands of options of application.

The company took out patents for several improvements of the existing technologies, including own process of dehydrogenation of propane - Olefleks by means of whom propane is processed into propylene of a polymeric sort without participation of installations of steam cracking or catalytic cracking. To other improvements process of processing of methanol treats with receiving olefins (MTO) in which the methanol received from coal or natural gas turns into olefins of which it is possible to make plastic.

Other patents belong to advanced production processes of high-quality, biodegradable detergents or linear alkylbenzene (LAB); this technology was for the first time developed by UOP Honeywell nearly 50 years ago. One of these inventions is the method of receiving linear alkylbenzene from renewable raw materials, but not from oil. Now nearly 90% of world biodegradable detergents are produced on UOP technology.

The company also took out several patents for membranes which are used for separation of chemical mixes in petrochemical and oil processing productions and also for removal of corrosion elements from natural gas – for the purpose of safe transportation and use in general. These inventions provide higher selectivity and performance that allows to lower energy costs on production of these products.

As a result of improvement of the processes of thermal burning developed by Callidus company, UOP Honeywell also took out several patents for new technologies of torches which make heat in oil processing processes more effectively, and on torches which reduce emissions of carbon and environmental pollution.
