The Verbatim company is a decision maker in the field of data storage and LED lighting instruments and has product assortments, both for business, and for end consumers.

Representative offices of Verbatim for 2015 are in America, Europe, the Pacific Rim and in the Middle East, the company has the offices in the majority of the countries of the world. The European headquarters of the company is based in Great Britain.

Owners

The Verbatim company for 2015 is subsidiary company of Mitsubishi Kagaku Media company which, in turn, is a part of Mitsubishi Chemical corporation – one of the largest chemical organizations in Japan which invests large sums in research and development in different spheres.

2019

Sale CMC Magnetics

In June, 2019 the CMC Magnetics company purchased Verbatim company, the producer of information media. The relevant agreement during negotiations was reached with Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation, the owner of Verbatim who now was [1].

Including check of regulating authorities, both parties are going to complete all terms of transaction until the end of 2019. According to signed documents, Verbatim was estimated at $32 million.

Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation will transfer everything that is related to Verbatim to ownership CMC Magnetics. Here the patents for developments and also all trademarks which are available at its order belonging to the company enter first of all. In addition, CMC Magnetics will get access to sales channels of products of Verbatim that for important for it as CMC Magnetics releases different information media too.

The list of the assets passing to CMC Magnetics includes also four divisions of Verbatim located in Australia, Europe, Hong Kong and the USA. The future of their employees and also the brand of Verbatim, is questionable so far.

Clive Alberts's appointment president of the region of EUMEA

On April 3, 2019 the Verbatim company announced Clive Alberts appointment the president of the region of EUMEA. It released Hidetaka Yabe who, in turn, took a position of the general manager of department of corporate marketing in Mitsubishi Chemical Corp from this duty.

Parent company of Verbatim company is Mitsubishi Chemical Media.

2015

From the moment of foundation in 1969 the Verbatim company made the significant contribution to development of technologies of data storage and for June, 2015 is the leading world supplier of optical mediums (compact disks, DVD disks and the disks Blu-ray). The company supplies to the market of the card a flash memory, external hard drives for data storage and also a wide choice of various computer accessories.

Besides, the company actively develops the direction of LED (LED) and organic LED lamps (OLED), developing qualitative products which reduce electricity consumption and have long service life. Verbatim is also a system provider of water purification. One of such systems under the Cleansui brand is recognized the most popular in a segment of filters for water purification in Japan (as of June, 2015).

2010

2010 and the 1st quarter 2011 brought to Verbatim company positive results in the markets of optics and USB flash drives. According to the Santa Clara Consulting Group (SCCG) agency, in 2010 the company increased a market share due to sales of DVD-R, the CD-R and Blu-ray of disks.

Despite some narrowing of this market, sale remain at the high level at the expense of a large number of the optical drives which are available in use of consumers. The general sales in pieces of DVD-R of disks decreased from 1.3 billion in 2009 to 1:07 a.m. billion in 2010. Despite of it, Verbatim was succeeded to increase the market share by 1.6% - to 44.6%. Respectively, more than four of each ten DVD disks sold in Europe, disks of Verbatim. In the 1st quarter 2011 the market share increased by 6%, having reached 50.4%.

More than a third from 922 million CD-R of the disks sold in the European market in 2010 fell to the share of Verbatim. In the 1st quarter 2011 the market share of Verbatim increased by 4%. According to SCCG, in Europe for 2010 more than 65.4 million USB drives are sold that means growth of the market by 13.3%. The market share belonging to Verbatim increased from 5.4% up to 9.3% and became a heel largest, and growth rates in the 1st quarter 2011 were even higher, having reached 5% and having brought the third place among brands with the best sales and a market share in 14%.

1990

In the 1990s the Verbatim company achieved a market leadership of diskettes, but the trend already moved towards magneto-optical mediums of smaller formats and the large volume of memory for data storage – the sphere in which the Verbatim company became a producer in the market of CD, DVD and Blu-ray of carriers. At that time, Verbatim was one of the few producers who turned on in the portfolio all popular formats and products, including many new products which for the first time appeared in the market and the tested products.

In 1990 Mitsubishi Kasei integrated with Mitsubishi Petrochemical, having created Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, again became the owner of the company. The Freecom brand purchased by Mitsubishi Chemical Media is one more branch of Verbatim. Freecom represents hard drives and solid state drives of a bonus class with the innovation functions.

1985: Eastman Kodak absorbs Verbatim

The financial needs for construction of additional production capacities led to the fact that in 1985 Verbatim was sold to the Eastman Kodak company specializing in the photo and cinema.

However after five years of cooperation of firm left.

1979

In 1979 stocks of the company were issued on the stock market. With a diskette DataLifePlus exit, two years later, the company continued to strengthen the positions in international market of producers of high-quality information media.

To enter the Japanese market, Verbatim created joint venture with Mitsubishi Kasei company.

1976

In 1976 the first ITC media factory at which thanks to production process created a teflon covering for disks was constructed. This diskette was put on the market under the name of Verbatim that in translation from Latin means "literally", and later was also available in a format 5.25 inches.

Up to this point products were on sale only for OEM manufacturing, but later the company expanded the business, having included in it and the retail sector. At the time of rebranding of the company in honor of the most sold product of Verbatim, the firm already totaled more than 1000 employees.

1973

In 1973 engineers of ITC developed the first 8-inch diskette of IBM with the special cover protecting a disk from dirt and damages.

1972

In 1972 the global share of ITC in production of cartridges with the body made 90 percent of polycarbonate, and in the company about 30 people worked.

1969

The engineer and the physicist Read Anderson began to create history Verbatim company in a garage in Silicon Valley, the State of California. In 1969 the company was called Information Terminals Corporation (ITC). Anderson realized the need of the market for information carriers for computers. During creation of the first product the beginning company placed the magnetic tape in separately purchased body from the cartridge, and created later own cartridges which differed in high reliability and durability of the body from polycarbonate.
