Xnor.ai is a developer of the technologies allowing to execute algorithms of artificial intelligence not in data centers, and on normal consumer and other low-power devices. For example, the surveillance cameras solving problems of object recognition independently allow to create solutions of a startup without relying on servers in a cloud and transfer of huge amounts of data. For this purpose the company uses possibilities of peripheral calculations.

History

2020: Apple purchased Xnor.ai

On January 15, 2020 it became known of sale of Xnor.ai of Apple corporation. At the same time several editions reported about it at once, and Apple confirmed the transaction, but refrained from further comments.

According to Financial Times, Apple paid about $200 million for purchase of a startup. which attracted in total $14 million investments before.

It became known of sale of Xnor.ai of Apple corporation

Xnor.ai developed a software platform which reduces the amount of energy necessary for start of models of machine learning. It will transform mathematical calculations which the AI algorithm uses for data processing, in simple binary operations which are executed by the processor.

One of developments of Xnor.ai — the instrument of computer vision capable to independently identify objects in photos. It is possible that the technology will find application in future models iPhone and iPad where it will be used not only for improvement of pictures, but also for identification of users.

Besides, developments of a startup can be useful to Apple during creation of the headset of augmented reality. The artificial intelligence can optimize rendering and other tasks, but the neural networks started on the wearable device should be rather energy efficient not to discharge the accumulator too quickly. Thanks to Xnor.ai technologies it it is possible to achieve.[1]
