Opening of the Robotic Center

In May 2023, Yandex officially opened its robotic center with a test site with an area of about 1000 square meters. m. The center allows Yandex. Market "test prototypes, assemble and produce faster for work in warehouses of industrial robots. They will help the marketplace reduce the cost of storing goods, increase logistics efficiency and save warehouse employees from monotonous tasks.

On May 18, 2023, those who work in the field of robotics or master such a profession will be able to get to the official opening of the Yandex center for the creation of warehouse robots Yandex. Market. " The robotics team began working at the center in the spring of 2023.

Yandex opened its robotic center with a test site

Earlier, Yandex developed its own warehouse robots using software created by the company's specialists. The robot inventory (has already begun its work) scans QR codes on packages with large-sized goods (household appliances, dry animal feed). These goods are stored on high racks in several tiers. The robot is equipped with a 12m high mast to reach the tallest goods. To navigate the space safely for yourself and others, the robot is equipped with a lidar (it allows you to determine the distance to other objects), as well as ultrasonic sensors and cameras. After scanning, the robot enters data into the warehouse system.

Another robot storekeeper is now in development. It will move goods within the darkstore. For example, the client made an order at Yandex.stavka, and the robot himself will bring it to the warehouse employee so that he will collect the purchase. The company creates a robot that is compact, maneuverable and resistant to low temperature, which is supported in warehouses with products.

Opportunity for sellers to trade with legal entities

Sellers who entrust Yandex Market with storing and delivering goods can now trade with legal entities. Yandex announced this on January 26, 2023. This can be done at the Market for Business site. It will help sellers attract business customers and increase the number of orders - for example, before gender holidays, when companies and entrepreneurs actively buy souvenirs and other gifts for employees and business partners. And those who make orders on the "Market for Business" will now have access to an even greater range of goods that can be bought as conveniently as on a regular Market.

Any seller who uses the general tax regime and works with a marketplace using the FBY model can trade through Market for Business (the service stores store goods, packs them and delivers them to customers). The marketplace does not limit the seller in the audience: the store itself chooses which Market windows it will trade on - for legal entities, individuals or both. You can choose this both when connecting to the marketplace, and after at any time. At the same time, the seller can create a separate showcase for business customers if he wants to set different prices for his goods for legal entities and individuals.

It will be as easy for stores to trade with legal entities on the Market as with individuals: in both cases, the service takes on the bulk of the tasks - from storing goods to delivering orders.

"Market for Business" helps companies and entrepreneurs buy goods of various categories - for example, coffee, tea, office sweets, stationery, office equipment, household chemicals, air conditioners, furniture and much more. The service is suitable for businesses of any size and direction - including shops, coffee shops, beauty salons. After ordering a service, a company or entrepreneur can receive a tax deduction of up to 20% VAT. To buy on the "Market for Business," you need to go to the Yandex ID service, enter the name of the company or IP or TIN and choose a convenient method of document management - paper or electronic.

Ability to place shots - short videos with goods

Sellers will be able to add shots to Yandex Market - short videos with goods that can be ordered on the service. Yandex announced this on November 23, 2022. Such videos will help customers better appreciate the product or find something completely new for themselves, and for stores, shots are an additional way to attract customers and increase sales on the service. The marketplace will show shots on the main page in its application in an endless feed and on a card with an offer from a specific seller.

With the help of shots, buyers will be able to learn more about goods. This is especially true for products, the appearance of which is important for the client to evaluate before ordering. For example, these are clothes, shoes and accessories, goods for beauty, children, sports or at home. When buying such goods, customers may not have enough photos and descriptions of them, and the video allows you to better view the product and understand whether it is worth ordering it. The market shows shots in an endless selection - this allows customers not only to better appreciate the products of interest, but also to find something new for themselves in the assortment of the marketplace.

Buyers will be able to like their favorite shots on the Market, comment on them, subscribe to new videos from stores, go from the video directly to the product card with a specific seller's offer in order to immediately place an order.

Shots will help sellers not only attract buyers on the service, but also increase the number of purchased orders. The more accurately the client evaluates the product before buying, the more likely it is that he will keep this order after receipt and will not return it to the seller.

The store can take a shot with any of its goods. For example, in the video you can show buyers unpacking an item or review it. To draw the attention of as many Market customers as possible to the shot, sellers can shoot famous bloggers in such videos. The duration of shots is from 5 to 60 seconds.

After the seller downloads the shot to the service, the video will first appear in the card of the corresponding product with an offer from a specific seller, and then in the "Shots" selection on the main page of the Market application. The more popular the video turns out to be, the higher the service will show it in the selection. The popularity of the shot depends on different parameters - for example, on the number of views, likes, comments and transitions from video to product card.

The seller can also add a description and hashtags to his video, and the buyer can watch shots in the general collection or only those videos that are combined by one hashtag.

The service for November 2022 has already begun to show such videos in its application to some customers. By the end of 2022, videos will be available to all customers who use the marketplace application.

Ikea Russia Inventory Purchase Agreement

Yandex Market has agreed to buy out all the inventories of the Russian division of IKEA. The binding documents were signed by both companies on November 16, 2022.

The agreement covers more than 20 million products in all categories presented in the Swedish network - from furniture to soft toys and home accessories. Yandex Market will begin selling IKEA goods by the end of 2022.

A special section "IKEA Goods and Analogues" appeared on the Yandex Market in early August. Since its launch, it has attracted consistently high customer interest. In it, Market collected goods on the same page from various partners, for example, factories that supplied their goods to IKEA, as well as from stores selling goods to the Swedish network. In addition, Yandex Market has on sale goods brought by partners from abroad[1]

Launch of second-hand buyback service

At the end of October 2022, Yandex.Market launched a used goods redemption service. Transactions on the platform will be carried out not directly, but through reseller partners: they will determine the value of the goods, redeem them from the user, verify the authenticity and condition of the goods, their pre-sale preparation, as well as carry out the sale of goods on the Market.

To sell a thing, you need to fill out an application on the "Market" and make an appointment with a specialist who can come and pick up the goods himself. The specialist's departure will be free for the user. Goods can be handed over on their own - for example, through the points of receipt and issuance of Boxberry orders or "Russian Post."

Yandex.Market launched a used goods redemption service

The value of the goods is determined by the partner on the basis of various factors, including the year of production of the goods, brand, technical and external condition. If at the time of the courier's arrival the user refuses the transaction (for example, the price has changed due to inconsistency with the declared state), then the specialist will still not have to pay for the trip.

At the first stage, with the help of Yandex.Market, users will be able to sell used strollers, premium accessories (bags, glasses, jewelry), car tires, children's designers, as well as electronics, for example, tablets and smartwatches.

In the future, Market will expand the list of reseller partners so that customers can choose from different offers. When selling clothing or accessories, the cost is determined after the product is viewed by a specialist and confirmed its authenticity. In the event of a purchase of goods, the buyer company transfers money to the client within a few hours, and the deadline for their crediting depends on the recipient's bank. When selling strollers, the manager evaluates the product by photo and sends an offer with the price via SMS. The partner pays money to the card when transferring the goods.[2]

Encouraging sellers with low prices and quality service

Yandex Market has launched a loyalty program for active sellers who offer customers attractive prices and a high level of service. Sellers will save on promotion and marketplace services, and customers will buy goods at a more profitable price and receive them on time. This became known on October 21, 2022.

Loyalty program privileges will be free for sellers. To get to the Market Club, the seller needs to maintain a certain amount of sales, work perfectly - that is, ship Marketplace shipments on time or deliver them to the buyer, do not cancel orders and offer the buyer favorable prices. In addition, it will be taken into account how actively the seller motivates his buyers with cashback points Plus.

Loyalty program participants will receive a reduced tariff for daily payments - only 1%, 15% cashback of promotion costs, as well as a dedicated technical support line. They will also receive a permanent 7% discount on business car rental from Yandex Drive.

Storage and delivery of sellers' goods from other marketplaces

On April 15, 2022, Yandex.Market announced the launch of a service for the Marketplaces market - storage, processing and delivery of goods from its warehouse using a service model (fulfillment as a service). The service will store, process and deliver products from partners that are sold through their own sites or other marketplaces. This will help stores save on logistics without overpaying for storing the same assortment in different warehouses, and the marketplace - to increase the efficiency of using their logistics capacities.

How does it work:

  • The seller brings goods to the Market warehouse that he sells through his online store or marketplaces. The market stores, packages and delivers such goods to the buyer.
  • The service in the spring of 2022 will begin testing the fulfillment of the service model at its warehouse in the Moscow region. Market will then offer sellers such services in other regions as well.
  • To try the service, you need to fill out an application, register on the Market using the FBY model (sales from the marketplace warehouse) and put your assortment on the marketplace showcase.

Store Opportunities:

  • The store will be able to connect additional sales channels without increasing logistics costs - savings can be up to 15%. The seller does not need to rent a warehouse or pay for the fulfillment of the same assortment at different sites. You also do not need to deliver the assortment, which is sold through an online store and marketplaces, to different logistics facilities.
  • Fulfillment as a service will help the store expand its sales geography. The market delivers goods from its warehouses to different regions, not just the one in which the seller works.
  • The marketplace will provide delivery of goods - the share of orders delivered on time from Market warehouses reached 98% last year.
  • The service also plans to help with the technical connection of the service. The market will provide an API to the partner so that it can set up data exchange between its online store or other product placement site and marketplace. This will allow the seller to automatically transfer confirmed orders to the service, as well as receive information about the balances in the service warehouse.

Business Prospects:

  • Demand for logistics for goods that are sold online. More than 65% of the Russian fulfillment market accounted for orders on marketplaces in 2021 (Data Insight study).
  • Fulfillment for sales on external sites can be an additional source of income for the Market. In 2021, the volume of the Russian fulfillment market was estimated at 41.8 billion rubles with a CAGR of 66% (Data Insight).

Start of self-import of products

In mid-February 2022, Yandex.Market announced the independent import of products Russia into for sale on its marketplace. We are talking about clothes, shoes, food, goods for sports, health, beauty and repair of famous foreign brands.

As Kommersant was told in Yandex.Market, the company will certify goods in Russia, deliver them and deal with customs clearance. This will significantly facilitate access to the market for companies that do not have experience in supplies to the Russian Federation, the retailer noted.

Yandex.Market began to independently import products

At the first stage, Yandex.Market decided to sell WalkingPad brand treadmills and BestWay leisure and leisure products. In the future, it is planned to expand brands, for some of them the company will in the future be an exclusive importer to Russia.

Experts interviewed by the publication note that on the one hand, intense competition in online trading forces the largest marketplaces to diversify their business, on the other hand, there is a reverse trend in the market as a whole: marketplaces are trying to reduce the share of goods that they sell themselves, since this carries financial risks.

The general director of Infoline-Analytics Mikhail Burmistrov pointed out the risks of independent import of products by Yandex.Market:

File:Aquote1.png
The model of direct imports, especially large goods with low sales frequency, is associated with significant financial costs and risks for the site itself - this is the freezing of working capital, logistics costs, scrap and return risks.
File:Aquote2.png

According to the president of the National Association of Distance Trading Alexander Ivanov, Yandex.Market can follow the path of Amazon and trade the most popular goods among its sellers, raising margins, but the question is whether the site has enough data for this.[5]

We welcome the signing of agreements with Yandex. We informed market participants about the possible reorganization of joint businesses with Yandex during the annual meeting with investors in 2019. Competition between the ecosystems of Sberbank and Yandex began to grow, we were looking for a mutually acceptable way out of this situation, and we, together with Yandex management, managed to find a balanced and mutually beneficial solution. We plan to remain partners with Yandex within the framework of commercial agreements in many areas, - said Lev Khasis, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Sberbank.

We are grateful to our colleagues from Yandex for working together and actively implementing the best practices of our companies. Together we were able to create Beru's marketplace from scratch in a short time and ensure its rapid development in the Russian e-commerce market. Beru's attendance for June 2020 exceeds 1 million people a day, and the monthly turnover is already about 4 billion rubles. Building an ecosystem is a living process, and this deal opens up new opportunities for us in the development of the e-commerce segment, and also removes from us a number of restrictions previously provided for by our agreements with Yandex, "added Lev Khasis.

Yandex.Market is transforming into an online hypermarket

In July, it became known that the Yandex.Market service intends to transform into an online hypermarket, in connection with which it is already negotiating with logistics operators on renting warehouses in order to have its own supply of running goods. According to RBC, the general director of the service Maxim Grishakov, Yandex.Market should look like a traditional hypermarket, but in the Internet version.[8]

"On the Yandex.Market platform, we are really building a hybrid model, because this will most clearly satisfy the needs of our buyers, on the one hand, and will be cost-effective for us, on the other. We want to control the execution of the order for those goods that are purchased often. For example, baby diapers or animal foods. We plan to place them in our warehouses or warehouses of proven partners. And large-sized goods that are not bought so often, say, wall insulation, it is impractical to keep in their warehouses, although ordering through our platform, of course, is possible. This is our focus - a wide range, "explained Grishakov[9]"

As noted, the service began the transition to a new model last year. So, in September 2016, the scheme for working with stores was changed from advertising (cost-per-click, CPC) to transactional (cost-per-action, CPA). If earlier the site took a commission (from 4.5%) for each user's transition to the store's website, now - for a completed purchase (from 2%). According to the service, in Moscow and the region, 20% of orders are already issued directly on Yandex.Market.

"We are creating a system in which a consumer can come to Yandex.Market, choose the necessary goods at the best price and these goods will come to him with one delivery," said Maxim Grishakov. - That is why we decided to switch to a transactional model. We will build a logistics and delivery system, aggregate them in warehouses and offer customers the most favorable conditions. I want to make sure that the buyer, coming to the Market, can choose different products with a favorable price and get them in the most convenient way - by courier, mail, with the help of postomats. "

According to the head of Yandex.Market, the service plans to continue to experiment and offer other categories of goods on its site. Earlier in test mode, the service began selling bank cards and insurance products.

According to the head of the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT) Alexei Fedorov, the reason for the transition to the new model was increasing competition, in particular, with the Chinese AliExpress. "Out of 300 million parcels from abroad, AliExpress's share is at least 60%," he said. - By the end of 2017, 1 million parcels a day will be received from the Chinese marketplace to Russia - this is already more than all orders for Yandex.Market combined. "

Deputies obliged Yandex.Market to return money for undelivered goods

The State Duma adopted in early 2017 in the first reading a bill on the regulation of the activities of commodity aggregators on the Internet. The document spells out amendments to the law "On Protection of Consumer Rights," which were developed by Rospotrebnadzor and approved by the government.

The bill introduces the concept of an aggregator of goods or services. This is an organization or an individual entrepreneur who provides an opportunity for the consumer to simultaneously familiarize themselves with information about this product on the Internet, conclude a sale and purchase agreement with the seller, and also make preliminary payment for the goods directly to the seller's bank account.

The aggregator, as well as organizations and individual entrepreneurs authorized by the seller, are obliged to inform the consumer about themselves and the manufacturer. The aggregator can do this by posting links to the websites of the manufacturer (seller, performer) on its website. Organizations authorized by the manufacturer (seller) and individual entrepreneurs, at the request of the consumer, are obliged to provide confirmation of the authority to act in the interests of the seller (manufacturer).

In what cases will aggregators have to return money

The most important part of the bill was the introduction of the responsibility of the aggregator. For providing the consumer with inaccurate information about the product (service) or the seller (manufacturer, importer, contractor), the aggregator will be responsible for the losses caused to the consumer.

At the same time, the seller is responsible for the proper execution of the contract concluded by the consumer with the seller based on the information provided by the aggregator about the product, as well as for compliance with consumer rights related to the transfer of low-quality goods.

The aggregator will have to return to the consumer the amount of advance payment received by him, if the goods (service) were not delivered (rendered) on time, and the consumer sent a notice to the seller (executor) about the refusal to fulfill the sale and purchase agreement due to violations of the seller's (executor) obligation.

The amount must be returned by the aggregator within 10 days from the date of filing claims. Along with the requirement, the consumer must transmit to the aggregator confirmation of sending a notice to the seller (executor) of refusal to fulfill the purchase and sale agreement.

If the consumer refused to accept the goods due to the provision of inaccurate information by the aggregator or the seller, the aggregator is obliged to return the amount of the prepayment received by it within 10 days from the date of submission of the relevant claim from the buyer.

The aggregator has the right to refuse to return the money to the consumer if the seller (contractor) provides him with confirmation of the acceptance of the goods (services) of consumers, and the aggregator will send this confirmation to the consumer within 10 days.

Yandex against

The bill, if finally adopted, will primarily affect the Yandex.Market service. True, only Yandex.Market partners working on the CPA model, within which the consumer draws up and pays for the order directly on the Yandex.Market website, will fall under the law[10].

Yandex itself was against this bill from the very beginning. "The current version of the bill does not take into account the role played by the aggregator," Yandex said. - Moreover, it puts domestic companies in a more vulnerable position compared to their foreign competitors. Earlier, market participants sent relevant proposals for adjusting the current version. They are balanced in terms of respect for the rights and interests of all participants in the process and are aimed at increasing the level of legal protection of consumers. "

Yandex.Market forces online stores to share revenues

The aggregator of goods from online stores Yandex.Market changes the principle of search results. From September 27, 2016, when issuing goods in 179 categories, priority will be given to stores that connect to Yandex.Market using the CPA (Cost Per Action) Yandex.Market model[11].

In total, Yandex.-Market has about 2 thousand product categories. The changes will affect the most popular of them: household and computer equipment, electronics, children's and automobile goods. So far, this ranking principle will be applied only in Moscow, but will soon spread to the regions.

Historically, Yandex.Market ranked goods in its search results based on the CPC (Cost Per Click) model. Online stores paid the aggregator for each visit ("click") they received from a given site. The more the store was ready to pay for one "click," the higher its product was ranked.

If the user chooses a prepayment when issuing the goods directly on Yandex.Market, then the commission will be debited from him only at the moment when the goods are transferred to the delivery service. Accordingly, if the user cancels the order before that moment, then the store will not lose anything.

Also, when paying for an order on Yandex.Market, the aggregator itself acquires bank cards and has not yet taken a commission from stores for this. In addition, when paying on Yandex.Market, the site will be able to take over all the functions of arbitration between the user and the store.

Another advantage is that not all online stores have optimized versions for mobile devices. The order through Yandex.Market can be carried out in its mobile application.

From September, Yandex.Market will sell equipment and electronics itself

Yandex.Market "decided when most of the transitions to the pages of sellers will disappear from its site: from the end of September, the site itself will sell in Moscow the main commodity categories in Russian online commerce - electronics, household appliances, children's goods, animal goods. A representative of Yandex.Market Vedomosti told Vedomosti[12] this: [13].

Now online retailers pay Yandex.Market for the fact that the site places their goods on its website, from where users go to the seller's website (cost per click). At the same time, since the end of 2014, Yandex.Market has been testing a system in which the purchase is carried out directly on its site, and the online retailer pays for the transaction (cost per action, CPA, or "Order on the Market").

At the end of September, about 1.5 million cards of goods of various categories will be transferred to the "Order on the Market" program, which give the site about 50% of user traffic, said a representative of Yandex.Market. By the end of 2016, according to him, other product categories in Moscow will be transferred to the new model, for which the SRA model is applicable (i.e. do not require individual changes in product parameters for a particular customer, for example, when buying kitchen furniture. - Vedomosti). In 2017, Yandex.Market plans to introduce the Order on the Market program in other regions of Russia, the representative said.

2014: Purchase of Metabar

On November 27, 2014, Yandex released an alpha version of the Browser, among its capabilities is the Rich Answer, which, based on Yandex.Market data, recommends a favorable price. And already in early December 2014, it became known that Yandex bought the Metabar company.

The idea of Metabar itself is a browser application designer with which site owners could create applications for their audience. Metabar launched the Advisor service in 2013. At the end of 2014, it has more than 2 million users, according to the company.

"Advisor" in its work from the very beginning focused on the data of Yandex.Market, which shares income for clicks. The annual revenue of Metabar was less than $1 million, Vedomosti knows. By the time the deal was announced, the company was already profitable, according to Runa Capital. In previous months, Metabar's revenue grew by 30-40%, says its creator Mikhail Ushakov. According to Kartoteki, in 2013 the company's revenue was 12.9 million rubles, net profit was 6.9 million rubles, Kommersant writes.

This is Runa Capital's first exit in Russia, Liliana Pertenava, a representative of Runa Capital, told Kommersant. According to her, the sale of Metabar brought the fund a "multiple return on the investment." Yandex cost several million dollars, but no more than $5 million, according to a Vedomosti source. Yandex bought everything except a legal entity - intellectual property, a team and a user base. All 11 people of the Metabar team went to work in a search engine.

Yandex plans to use the Advisor to show not only the best prices from Yandex.Market, but also for other areas.

"We plan to use it to choose different goods and services, for example, plane tickets," Alexander Feoktistov, head of the Yandex.Market marketing service, told Kommersant.
