The first version of SAP HANA is developed within the joint innovation program of SAP company with her key partners and clients (Coca-Cola, Future Group, Hilti and many others).

The program allows users to develop business models and to perform business planning using data and analytics in real time for implementation is more whole than business in short terms. Use of SAP HANA technology gives advantage when using the last achievements in the field of computing powers, such as more available bleyd-servers with multi-core processors, capable to process data for the companies of any sizes. With SAP solutions of in-memory clients can quickly be guided in huge information volumes as data are stored and analyzed by SAP HANA technology instead of being stored in statistical tables of traditional databases.

Thanks to optimal use of opportunities of RAM, processor technology and the innovation applications the SAP HANA tool increased data processing rate of in-memory and gave unique opportunities for analytics. For example, at an experimental stage of project implementation SAP HANA the SAP company implemented some key applied scenarios which increased performance by 1200 times. Client applied scripts on which two-three hours were required earlier are executed less than in five seconds now.

From the technical point of view HANA represents the system consisting of the hardware (a complex of servers based on architecture of Intel of CPU, from partners - producers of the hardware) and the software from SAP, delivered in the form of the preconfigured complex.

Innovations in HANA

The SAP company implemented a number of technical breaks in the core of calculations of in-memory, having provided, for example, optimal loading of the processor and a possibility of parallel processing of data on several nodes. In the course of joint work with clients at an experimental stage of the SAP HANA project it was succeeded to show a number of global innovations in three key areas:

  • Speed: the module of calculations in RAM from SAP allows each core of the processor to scan 2 million records in millisecond and to produce "on the fly" more than 10 million operations on aggregation of data per second. These results are achieved using the real these clients working on standard Intel processors. For example, the SAP company implemented the real solution on the basis of SAP HANA for the client who is engaged in sale of consumer goods which showed a possibility of processing of the most advanced queries with participation more than 450 billion records for read seconds.
  • Scalability: the program core of SAP HANA is developed on the basis of multinuclear architecture, in it the adaptive algorithms allowing to use optimum a cache are implemented. As a result performance linearly grows at increase in quantity of the involved cores, processors and servers. Outputs are obvious - it is technology of the future. It for long time will provide the best ratio "price/performance" as the quantity of the cores used in servers continues to increase in geometrical progression.
  • Compression: the core of SAP for calculations in memory uses the advanced shrinking algorithms and data structures allowing to minimize the amount of memory necessary for normal system operation.

Retail

The considerable amounts of data which are saved up by large retail chain stores can give the mass of useful analytical information to top managers: what goods are in demand whether their enough in a warehouse is provided, whether deliveries what shops are most profitable and so on are arranged. At sale of oil products through retail networks (gas station) Big Data help marketing to predict demand, to carry out a brand analytics, to analyze the prices and their changes by the competing companies, regions taking into account macroeconomic indicators. And the commercial director will become interested in opportunities of sales increase of joint products (due to detection of patterns) and decrease in idle times of gas station (at the expense of more exact logistics of fuel trucks).

We will give active implementation in the oil and gas industry of Brazil of technologies of Big Data which goes under the influence of two factors as an example: opening of large hardly removable reserves of oil and gas and rapid growth of the IT sector. Modern IT tools allowed to analyze all volume of prospecting data, to select from it the most valuable information, and on its basis investors could make reasoned decision on investments into "complex" Brazilian oil.

Result of implementation of new technologies – the mass foreign investments in the industry. Thanks to partial state support and investments of the foreign power enterprises, a set of the international IT companies invest in national economy now. Only one EMC already invested about $100 million in creation of research center to Rio de Janeiro which is engaged in development of technologies of processing of Big Data, specializing in solutions in storage area, the analysis and management of flows of Big Data, it is a lot of generated by oil-producing enterprises of the country.

In spite of the fact that today only 2% of works on oil exploration in Brazil are performed by the rival companies of the Brazilian state Petrobras, only for last year they invested here in Research and Development about $500 million. At the same time it is expected that in the next five years this digit will increase by 25%, and by 2017 total investment in Research and Development for exploration and production of oil in Brazil will be $7 billion.

Telecom

Advanced technologies of Big Data, of course, are used also in the field of telecommunications. One of scopes of application – management of loyalty of subscribers. The companies use Big Data for formation of profiles of subscribers: carry out segmentation of the customer base, assessment of preferences and calculation of profitability for each group. Further they do the analysis of records about calls of clients by tens and hundreds of configured settings, define social groups of subscribers. After that planning and a preliminary estimate of the marketing companies, high-quality targeting proceeding from profiles of subscribers are carried out. As a result marketing helps to prevent outflow of subscribers due to identification and assessment of the importance of factors which affect loyalty.

At the beginning of 2014 the Spanish telecom company presented the analytical system based on work with Big Data in 3G networks and 4G. A system predicts behavior of accumulations of people on the basis of information transferred by their smartphones and both on the street, and in hospitals, libraries, shopping centers and other public buildings. A system can be used by law enforcement agencies, during the concerts and sporting events and for the organization of advertizing campaigns.

The Russian telecommunication companies also use Big Data. For example, MGTS provides management of technicians online now: predicts the needs for field resources, plans changes of personnel and also optimizes working schedules of employees. Such system is already used by large foreign operators.

One more solution in the field of telecommunications – preventive diagnostics. Analyzing different operation parameters of the equipment, it is possible to reveal system behavior templates which precede emergence of failures, to define causes of failure. Early diagnostics allows to plan prevention, replacement and repair of the equipment routinely, without problems for clients.

Telecom operators try to analyze which of their clients is considered authority on the circle of contacts and what they have requirements. Such information is given by the analysis of social networks. If suddenly one of authoritative clients publicly reports that he switches to other operator, then it can cause domino effect. Naturally for the benefit of the company to prevent these events. And the predictive analytics which will reveal a service value addition trend, or to reduction of quantity of calls can help it with it. The company has a chance to correct a situation, without bringing the user to transition to the competitor. The predictive analytics can automatically warn when it is necessary to take measures. It is reported that thus the American T-Mobile reduced the level of outflow of clients by 50% a quarter.

Transport

SAP HANA proposes solutions and for the sphere of transport. The interesting solution exists for control of dislocation and schedule performance, planning of schedules on the railroad. Construction of the railroads also became an object for application of Big Data. Every year in the world more and more kilometers of railroad tracks are under construction, and according to its repair and contents are also an expensive part in the budget of the country. For example, the Canadian engineering company Bombardier built monorail roads for trains which it is 25% easier in Saudi Arabia and São Paulo and for 10% are less energy-intensive, than the traditional rolling stock of the subway. The company borrowed the ideas for construction in the space industry. In addition, a system differs in high profitability, without requiring considerable construction costs and the organization of infrastructure.

In the Netherlands the railroads use the advanced software, analyzing 56 thousand variables, including a status of the railroads and level of passenger demand. Thanks to the analysis of these data the carrier sends more than 5 thousand trains a day, increases operational efficiency by 6% and saves about 20 million euros a year.

Not less demonstrative is the example of use of Big Data in aircraft. Bangkok Airways use all complex of solutions on the SAP HANA platform. One of advantages of this solution for passengers is that the company in real time obtains information on the most popular and loaded routes, quickly entering additional flights on them. SAP solutions increase efficiency of the airports worldwide, so, using them, the management of Fraport AG (the airport of Frankfurt am Main), achieved reducing costs for maintenance and on control of the equipment for 70%.

Power

Solutions on SAP HANA and in power are applied. A popular subject of the last years – intelligent electrical power systems. They have broad functionality – from monitoring and adaptive control by network in real time, the analysis and change of topological parameters of power networks, before ensuring communication between consumers and suppliers. The main objective – optimization of generation and consumption, and, as a result – reducing costs of the electric power. Other solution – monitoring of technical condition of the power grid equipment, who assumes early detection (forecasting) of faults and increase in readiness of the equipment that allows to pass as a result to service of production assets "on actual state" and gives the chance to the management of the enterprises to make more reasoned decisions.

One more scope of work in power – operational monitoring and forecasting. Here operational monitoring of the transferred, consumed electric power, electricity metering in real time and formation of reporting documents according to these data means. As a result – increase in efficiency of functioning of power economy and cost reduction on the electric power thanks to identification of irrational use and forecasting of volumes of consumption.

It is possible to give one of developments of SAP as an example – a concept Manhattan. The scenario of the project assumes that each house will be equipped with "the smart counter". Measurements of indications will be conducted each 5 minutes, and the received results – to go to the analytical system based on advanced technologies of work with Big Data integrated with GIS (including with online maps). Thanks to it in a system it will be possible to see an overall picture of energy consumption and to obtain detailed information on each area and the house: as energy consumption depending on weather conditions, season and day changes. And on the basis of these real and exact data it will be possible to plan power supply of one of the busiest and power-intensive areas.

cross-industrial scenarios

Except solutions for the specific industries, Big Data are applied also to cross-industrial scenarios. Briefly we will tell about some of them.

The organization of "repairs on a status" (Predictive Maintenance) allows to reduce equipment downtimes, more precisely to plan repairs, to reduce warehouse stocks.

The situational center – it will be organized for instant response to events with the actions plan in all directions (personnel, ecology, production), automatic control of the set parameters of functioning of a system, identification of possible threats and support of development of solutions in atypical, crisis and emergencies.

Counteraction to fraud helps with identification of fraudulent transactions and certain types of behavior of objects – or falling under in advance configured filters (mismatch of information in different data sources, activity codes), or containing deviations (the number of the rendered services are more, than an average in group, the current level of consumption of service does not correspond to history of potrebleniye), etc.

The analytics of a brand provides use of Big Data for data analysis of social networks, media and forums, formation of the personalized approach to clients.

Recognition and identification according to the image – identification of violators, swindlers, clients using surveillance cameras and the system of recognition, profiling of data. The number of such scenarios will only increase over time in process of development of technologies of processing and the analysis of Big Data.

2019: RHEL 8 for SAP Solutions as the platform for start of SAP HANA 2.0

On September 10, 2019 the Red Hat company provided Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 for SAP Solutions – the smart operating system which is at the same time providing a scope of hybrid cloud environments and support of crucial workloads of SAP. Throughout start of RHEL 8 the SAP company opened production-support of SAP RHEL 8 for SAP Solutions as the platform for start of SAP HANA 2.0 (versions of SPS 04 above) on architecture of Intel x86 (64 bits). 2017: SAP HANA is available from Google Cloud Platform

On March 13, 2017 Google and SAP declared the beginning of strategic partnership which purpose - access to SAP products to Google Cloud Platform.

2016

SAP HANA 2

On November 7, 2016 the SAP company announced release of SAP HANA platform 2 with enhanced capabilities of digital transformation of business.

The functionality of a system is upgraded regarding data management, intellectual analytics, application development, complemented with cloud microservices.

2015

SAP released the 10th servispak

On June 17, 2015 SAP announced release of the service pack of HANA Support Package Stack 10 (SPS10), by a basis the emphasis in which is placed on expansion of opportunities of processing and the analysis of Big Data and support [[Internet of Things of Internet of Things (IoT)|of Internet of Things (IoT)]][3].

Integration tools of HANA with the freshest versions of the Hadoop distribution kits from Cloudera and Hortonworks are for this purpose added, support of fast transfer of the structured and unstructured data of Spark SQL and the unified user interface for administration of HANA and Hadoop-clusters by means of Apache Ambari is implemented.

Distribution of data in implemented in SPS9 (left at the end of 2014) the data tiering mechanism can be set using the rules going from business. For example, the enterprise can store data for the last year in RAM, and to move older on disk DWH or to Hadoop. Possibilities of the analysis of texts (text mining) where now the syntax of standard SQL is maintained are expanded and 32 national languages are added. In tasks Internet of Things the important place is allocated to synchronization of the data which are saved up on remote platforms with the central DB. IoT Of-applications and mobile solutions with intensive data exchange can use Razrabotchki now built in DBMS SAP SQL Anywhere which is capable to accumulate and process data on places, transferring them to the central storage synchronously or at those moments when communication links are available. At the same time processes, critical in terms of business logic, can locally be fulfilled taking into account results of predictive analytics even for lack of steady connection with the central server.

Thanks to emergence of mechanisms of asynchronous replication 1: n, recovery of dynamic hierarchy of multilevel data storage after failures and incremental backup, is significantly raised the fault tolerance which is of great importance in the responsible applications requiring smooth round-the-clock functioning. In vertically scalable server HANA configurations multiprocessor architectures of NUMA are supported now that allows to use in one in-memory the server more than 12 TB of RAM.

According to the statement of SAP, for half a year from the moment of release of the service pack of SPS9 the number of the customers using HANA grew from 4100 to 6400. For June 17, 2015 1400 clients of SAP company use a cloud service of SAP HANA Cloud Platform. More than 1900 startups applying the HANA platform in the developments are registered.

In a security system of SAP HANA "the hole according to regulations" works

On June 18, 2015 Alexander Polyakov, the technical director of the Russian company Digital Security, at the Black Hat Sessions XIII conference in the Netherlands[4] told about the wrong organization of protection in the SAP HANA platform[4].

The product of SAP company - SAP HANA - contains the vulnerability allowing malefactors to get access to pairs the login/password of users, the processed information. Alexander Polyakov acted on behalf of ERPScan — Californian "subsidiary" of Digital Security.

According to the Polyakov's statement, a problem that customers of SAP HANA do not change a static master key, which in each installation of the HANA platform same around the world. Having received a key, the hacker can get also access to all data within the platform.

Dmitry Chastukhin, the director of the department of audit of SAP in Digital Security company, reported: "It is possible to receive an encryption key by the analysis of a program code and carrying out researches. Specialists of Digital Security used this method and could decrypt data on other servers, using the found key. The most important that for interpretation of the file it is not always necessary to be highly qualified".
"People think, time of SAP HANA is the In-Memory database, on hard drives is not stored any information. But actually everything is not so remarkable. In fact some data are on disks, - Alexander Polyakov explained. - The matter is that a system reserves data from RAM on a disk if there will be any failure".

Passwords and keys for decoding of save points concern these the data given some technical accounts. All of them are placed in storage under the name of hdbuserstore. This storage — the simple file on a disk. It is ciphered by means of 3DES algorithm using a static master key. If the malefactor gets access to this file and will decode it, using a static master key (same for all installations), he will receive passwords of users of a system and keys for decoding of data on disks. After that will be able to get also access to all data.

In documentation to SAP HANA it is specified about need of replacement with the customer of a static master key, but nobody does it. According to experts, all clients of ERPScan company whom it polled (100% of the enterprises) continue to use a factory key for enciphering of hdbuserstore.

According to the technical director of Digital Security, vendors should force clients to change a key during installation, but not to hide the recommendation of its replacement in the text of the instruction of 160 pages. He also added about very widespread problem of storage of static keys and weak encryption algorithms in the field of the corporate software and ERP systems in particular. More than 200 commercial solutions are vulnerable to this attack, the expert added.

2014

Virtual SAP HANA works in VMware vSphere 5.5

SAP HANA DBMS with in-memory technology (loading of all data in RAM) was available to productive use only on physical servers until recently. But now the situation changed — on May 6, 2014 VMware and EMC jointly announced that it for high-level business applications of Virtual HANA can be started in the environment of vSphere 5.5 now.

SAP HANA which is released at the end of 2010 forms a business basis with turnover in one billion dollars today and more than 3200[5] with number of clients[6].

As Michael Harding, the chief technical architect of the systems of SAP for internal IT infrastructure of EMC wrote on May 6 in the corporate blog, "the IT service EMC performed strategic transition from our old ERP environment to SAP, new based on technologies. During this process we considerably transformed and optimized a number of aspects of business of EMC. The SAP HANA platform for data management and operation of applications of in-memory helped us to reduce risks of deceleration of information processing when forming at the end of the quarter of important reports on the basis of the large volume of data on business and critical processes of quoting, production and deliveries of products, postupayemy in real time".

Virtual HANA on vSphere 5.5 it is possible to manage together with other landscape of a SAP software by means of already used tools. One of key advantages of virtualization of HANA using solutions of VMware is an opportunity to work with several smaller copies of HANA on one physical server. It means that now it is not obligatory to tie a hardware complex for HANA to one copy of DBMS, it can support at the same time several virtual copies of HANA that provides to the customer more flexibility in use of the available resources.

The virtualized offer of HANA based on VMware also gives to the customer the following pluses:

  • considerable reduction of time of deployment of HANA (creation of the new SAP HANA node becomes the simple task performed by means of VMware using the technology of copying and cloning which is closely integrated with arrays of data storage of EMC);
  • possibility of operational migration of virtual copies of HANA by means of vMotion (recent reference tests showed that intensively loaded virtual copy of SAP HANA from 512 GB of memory can be cloned and copied from one data center in another using vMotion in time within 10 minutes);
  • an opportunity to avoid excess costs for the equipment, using the existing certified server and a storage system of HANA and methodology of HANA Tailored Datacenter Integration (own EMC IT command uses for stable operation of applications of Virtualized HANA functionality of high readiness of VMware instead of the former completely equipped reserve node in physical model of high readiness on hardware base today; in case of refusal servers the corresponding functionality of VMware provides automatic reboot of a copy of Virtualized HANA).

In November, 2012 SAP and VMware combined efforts that HANA earned under vSphere in release 5.1, however the result was not ready to intensive productive use. Today both IT companies are completely satisfied with it.

SAP HANA 8 (SP8)

On June 9, 2014 the SAP company announced new opportunities and the SAP HANA functions - they appeared at the SAP HANA platform, mobile and analytical applications, services of data and services of integration in a cloud, access to which is implemented by means of open user interfaces.

SAP HANA of SP8 allows clients to include innovations in applications of new generation, both from SAP, and from her partners. The software of SAP Lumira for a business intelligence and data visualization is available to implementation on the SAP HANA platform and includes the analytic functions working in real time.

In expanded structure of integration the partner companies will have an opportunity to build in SAP HANA advanced analytic functions (for example, functions of assessment of forecast model) that will allow to increase significantly efficiency, to simplify and reduce the number of transactions of data movement.

New "turnkey" solutions, standardized and joint in packet, for service SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud will help clients to pass quicker to SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud and to use reliably protected environment for business conversion. They turn on a complex solution package of fast deployment, intended for automation of process of implementation and simplification of transfer of a client system to a cloud environment. To a set from five simple and convenient solutions three more "turnkey" solutions — for retail, insurance companies and the organization of cooperation were added to networks of suppliers and also integration with Ariba network. Clients will get advantages, in the form of acceleration and simplification of transactions among managed a private cloud.

The technology of integration of SAP HANA Cloud Integration can be used as the autonomous solution. Clients can integrate data and processes between cloud and local applicaions, including SAP applications and third-party producers. SAP continues to expand and complement the range of previously packed content for integration allowing clients to implement quickly new business scenarios.

2013. Ecosystem, indicators, digits

SAP together with the dynamic ecosystem contributes to business development and innovations thanks to the SAP HANA platform. The company helps clients in search of new business development paths and effective actions on the SAP HANA platform. The statement is in this way made at the SAPPHIRE NOW conference, on May 14-16 in the city of Orlando (the State of Florida, the USA).

By the end of the first quarter 2013 of nearly 4 thousand partner consultants more than 1.3 thousand employees of sales departments and pre-sale preparation – training in work with SAP Business Suite under control of SAP HANA were trained on work with SAP HANA, and that helps to implement quicker the platform at clients.

During the first quarter 2013 more than 50% of sales of a packet of SAP Business Suite under control of SAP HANA were made by partners of SAP. They play a key role as before, satisfying the needs of the market for technological solutions on the basis of this product. According to data of the IDC agency, in 2012 the ecosystem of partners of SAP gained income in the amount of $4.2 billion from sales of SAP solutions for calculations in RAM.

2012

In January, 2012 SAP presented a series of new solutions for the average and small organizations based on HANA. In particular, the HANA Edge system and the special analytical module for schedule system of resources of the Business One ERP enterprise is submitted.

Database management systems with information processing in RAM became the main trend in development of corporate business systems because of their capability considerably recently to accelerate request processing. Still similar solutions were most often applied in the large organizations, but now SAP company, as well as some other producers, begins to propose solutions with data processing only in RAM for a segment of medium and small business. New SAP products will extend through partners. The company SAP considers that more than 96,000 clients, i.e. about 79% of all customer base can become buyers of these solutions.

The main difference of HANA DBMS as platforms consists in use only of RAM for data processing. Failure from the appeal to the hard drive at information processing allows to cope successfully both with analytical requests, and with mass transaction processing. Now solutions based on HANA deliver a set of vendors in the form of virtual devices and in the form of hardware and software systems.

The packet of HANA in edition Edge for the SMB-segment will repeat completely functionality of the industrial version of HANA. Besides, the subsequent versions of HANA Edge will decrease to be released along with updating of the industrial version. At the same time, the solutions HANA Edge will have one important restriction – on amount of RAM. Besides, the HANA Edge technology will be delivered in set with the system of a business intelligence of SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI (Business Intelligence).

For data analysis in the systems of the Business One series (the solution for medium-sized and small enterprises) the solution which developers characterize as "the facilitated, easy to use application based on SAP HANA technology with the system of reports generation SAP Crystal Reports, best in the class" is proposed. This product will go on sale until the end of 2012 for now it is available to a limited circle of the entrusted clients.

At the moment the SAP company did not announce the official prices on the SMB-products constructed based on HANA technology. Representatives of SAP assure that the price will be adequate as target market is very sensitive in price questions that is the main difference from the market of big customers.

Due to the release of SMB-products based on HANA technology it is necessary to remind that after the first official representation of this technology in June, 2011 the SAP company actively implements it in key modules of the flagman Business Suite platform. Moreover, developers are going to include this technology as the main DBMS for the next generation of the products Business Suite.

In March, 2012 SAP announced the next expansion of opportunities of HANA. Now it supports the packet for financial planning and consolidation of BusinessObjects 10.0 working at the NetWeaver platform.

Planning and consolidation, emphasize in SAP, is one of the most perspective scopes of HANA. Though Oracle, and IBM locate the solutions in this area, use of HANA will give to SAP BusinessObjects packet advantage in performance, claim in the company. However, comparative tests in SAP were not done yet.

Originally HANA DBMS intended for problems of a business intelligence, but now SAP actively adapts it and for solving of tasks in which transaction DBMS were traditionally used.

More than 500 clients of HANA

SAP is close to the fact that to sign the 600th delivery contract in-memory of the SAP solution HANA, top managers of the company at the beginning of September, 2012 said. According to representatives of SAP AG, at the moment the number of clients of the system which left a year ago is more than 500. Steve Lucas, the vice president of SAP for products DBMS and technologies told journalists about it. About 100 projects are in a produktiva, about 200 more – in a planning stage.

It is interesting that 40% of clients of HANA still are not users of key business applications of SAP that demonstrates distribution of a product far beyond the available customer base of SAP, Lucas said.

At this SAP continues to position HANA as the most sold product in the history of the company, in 2012 sales of the solution, according to forecasts of SAP, should generate $403 million revenue. At the same time the company does not open complete data about the cost of the solution, in particular its industrial version. Lucas explained it with the fact that the company works on some changes in a product, but at the same time did not explain with what.

Lucas also said that HANA will develop not just as DBMS, namely as the platform, and now SAP works on creation of additional platform services. He also told that SAP aims at creation of an ecosystem a startup of the companies around HANA, carrying out joint works with a number of venture funds.

SAP placed HANA DBMS in a cloud of Amazon Web Services

HANA DBMS entirely executing processing in RAM is from now on available in the form of the cloud version with an hourly pay on the Amazon Web Services platform. Now customers and partners of SAP will be able to get acquainted with HANA without purchase of the equipment and software licenses, believe in the companies. Still HANA was offered in the form of a complex which hardware was delivered by different producers. Now it is possible to use HANA on AWS for 0.99 dollars per hour without rates of Amazon.

Earlier, to interest in the new DBMS customers, SAP offered the free license on HANA for developers. Now the organizations will have an opportunity to test trial versions of HANA projects in AWS, consider in SAP.

Technical support services of the cloud version of HANA in SAP are not going to be provided. In view of presence of level of virtualization high-speed performance of HANA in AWS is about 5% lower, than at the local version, specify in SAP. AWS copies of HANA will be able to service bases no more than 32 Gbytes in size. Besides, it is impossible to cluster copies for speeding up. These restrictions are caused by the fact that in SAP do not intend to undermine own business of sales of local versions of DBMS, emphasize in the company.

Increase in financing of SAP HANA Real Time Fund

SAP strengthens support of the young companies, having increased in 2012 a contribution to SAP HANA Real Time Fund from $155 million planned earlier to $405 million - the excellent help to the young companies around the world which build business on the basis of technologies of SAP, including on the SAP HANA platform.

Managed by independent company SAP Ventures, the SAP HANA Real-Time Fund sets as the purpose further development and support of an ecosystem of the entrepreneurs and heads of funds paying the main attention to application development, working in real time and to use of Big Data as the tool for creation of business value.

In addition, the company improved the SAP HANA Marketplace portal. Now both certain developers and the whole enterprises can be trained, test and purchase the solutions under control of SAP HANA developed by SAP company, the young companies and independent software suppliers. The SAP HANA Marketplace portal integrated with SAP Store shop not only proposes solutions for purchase: here it is possible to enter community where developers exchange the ideas and jointly work on creation of new products. The solutions certified for work on the SAP HANA platform according to standards of integration of SAP are marked as "powered by SAP HANA" ("under control of SAP HANA"). In process of expansion of a solution portfolio on the Marketplace portal, SAP is going to add additional functions — search of requests for the offer (RFP), reviews of developers and system integrators, the analysis of options of infrastructure for implementation of the SAP HANA platform.

Allowable loads

In March, 2011 SAP AG also IBM announced the first official performance testing results of the SAP solution In-Memory Appliance (SAP HANA). The software of SAP easily copes from 10,000 requests per hour, processes during this time 1.3 TB data and issues results within several seconds.

During testing the workload typical for schedule systems of resources of the enterprise (ERP) which clients of SAP use, including, for preparation of the reporting was imitated. The tested solution was connected to the data warehouse of the SAP ERP system containing the large volume of information on delivery to the sold products. Testing was executed within the joint project of two companies and set as the purpose to create effective solution for data analysis in real time. The solution is based on optimal program and the hardware — technology of calculations in RAM of SAP In-Memory Computing and the servers of IBM of series 3850, best in the class.

Testing was held under control of the independent expert — WinterCorp. Test cases are developed especially for performance review of the solution executing processing in RAM of analytical requests to base of operational data. Test cases completely reflected all complexity of corporate data taking into account determinations and data types and also schemes of their distribution, without preliminary aggregation of data or optimization of a DB. Specialized analytical requests were developed taking into account requirements of modern business. They allow the companies to analyze different trends in the sales history and help to define, for example, key customers and the most sold goods and also to monitor return of clients — with any detail level and for any period. The received results confirm that the considered solution has no analogs in terms of performance. 50 clients of SAP company who take part in the joint innovation program directed to improvement of the SAP solution HANA were already convinced of it.

Also the following results were received:

  • The SAP solution HANA processes a large number of advanced parallel queries in the course of the business analysis. Workload: ten flows of analytical requests and four flows of the operational reporting of flows (SAP solution In-Memory Database). Overall performance was 10,000 requests per hour.
  • The SAP solution HANA analyzes huge data arrays for read seconds. Advanced queries, for example, for the purpose of the analysis of trends in work of the sales organization or search of patterns within a sales history of materials, were executed concerning the database containing 1.3 TB information. A system issued results within several seconds.
  • The SAP solution HANA does possible the analysis "on the fly". SAP HANA can process specialized analytical requests without any preparatory calculations, a preliminary materialization or aggregation of data. Large-scale setup of the database is also not required.
  • The technology of calculations in RAM of SAP In-Memory Computing in combination with the equipment of IBM guarantees fast return of investments. In the course of testing the database of 1.3 TB was used, the SAP solution for calculations in RAM was deployed on the IBM X5 server (32 cores, RAM 0.5 TB, the disk RAID 5 system). Results confirmed an excellent ratio "price performance". By production of the IBM eX5 servers the MAX5 technology which allows to abstract RAM from processors was for the first time applied and to increase scalability of a system without purchase of the additional hardware.

In the course of cooperation of IBM and SAP company developed advanced replication scripts for clients who use DB2. DB2 supports SAP HANA and can effectively perform in SAP HANA replication of data in the mode close to real time, using Sybase Replication Server. ERP systems based on DB2 will be able to satisfy completely high business needs on preparation of the reporting in real time on the basis of the most up-to-date data and without additional administrative efforts.

Adding of a data processing system from metering devices

In September, 2011 the family of customized applications for the SAP HANA platform (High-Performance Analytic Appliance) was replenished with an information processing system of intelligent metering devices and the system of complex analysis of the profitability processing large volumes of financial data.

HANA, the platform of processing of large volumes of information in RAM, is delivered in the form of the complex working on the equipment of different suppliers. A system is offered first of all for analytical tasks, but SAP has long-term plans on transfer on HANA of all its packet of business applications of Business Suite.

The analysis system of profitability is offered in the form of "the solution of rapid implementation" — the software product which is in advance prepared for use implemented by SAP consultants or her partners. A system will allow to generate in real time reports on large volumes of data and to analyze the current information for obtaining useful data.

SAP is also going to create the special portal for developers and system administrators on which they will be able to share negative experience of use of HANA that specialists of SAP could eliminate these defects.

IDC: SAP HANA is in the lead on growth rates of demand among a RDBMS

The SAP AG company announced that, according to the new report of IDC, it won first place on growth rates of profit among the leading suppliers of the relational database management systems (RDMS). In the report ('Worldwide Relational Database Management Systems 2011 Vendor Shares') the known analytical company IDC informs "Distribution of market shares between suppliers of relational database management systems in 2011" that the SAP company has the highest rates in the market on profit increase. The SAP company exceeded a world indicator of profit increase in the market of a RDBMS for 15.1% and became the RDBMS which are the most dynamically developing from 10 leading suppliers. Growth in comparison with 2010-2011 was 44%. With income in the amount of 1.004 million US dollars, SAP company takes the fourth place in the market of a RDBMS in terms of a market share now, having bypassed Teradata company (in comparison with results of a similar research for last year).

According to the report of IDC, "set of income of SAP company on the solution following: SAP Sybase ASE, SAP Sybase IQ, SAP Sybase SQL Anywhere and SAP HANA allowed it to be fixed on the fourth place, having bypassed Teradata, mainly due to adding [SAP] of HANA to the product portfolio of a RDBMS".

According to the report of IDC, "The market [RDBMS] includes multi-user DBMS which are organized, mainly, in compliance in relational a paradigm and apply SQL as fundamental language to determination and access. Besides, RDBMS which are capable to support the built-in tables and other not relational additions and also expanded types of attributes (for example, graphic, geoinformation or audio), object-oriented forms of representation (for example, encapsulation of data) and XML - data were added to a research".
