Amancio Ortega Gaona is the Spanish entrepreneur, the founder and the owner of the Inditex holding integrating the brands Zara, Massimo Dutti, Pull&Bear, Bershka, Stradivarius, etc.

Biography

Ortega was born in 1936 in the provinces Leons in poor family of the railway worker and since the childhood began to work in the field of trade, having passed a way from the messenger in clothing store to the owner of one of the largest textile holdings in the world. Ortega opened the first factory in 37 years, and the first shop called Zorba in honor of the hero of the feature film "Greek Zorba". The shop had to be renamed into Zara because of difficulties with registration.

The first Zara shop in Russia opened in 2003.

2012: The third place in the rating of the richest people of the world

In 2012 Ortega with a status in 46.6 billion dollars (38 billion euros) took the third place in the rating of the richest people of the world prepared by the Bloomberg agency. In 2012 the textile holding Inditex was recognized by the best employer of Spain.

In 2013 Ortega also actively buys up the Spanish real estate. One of the last acquisitions - the BBVA bank building on the area of Catalonia in Barcelona purchased by it for 100 million euros[1].

2014: The richest European

In October, 2014 Amancio Ortega won first place in the rating of the richest Europeans of Julius Baer Swiss Bank with a status in 48 billion euros. Ortega's daughter – Sandra – with a status in 5.2 billion euros takes the seventh place in the rating of the richest women of Europe.

2017: Selection of 320 million euros for the equipment for cancer therapy

The fund of Amancio Ortega, founder and major shareholder of textile holding Inditex, offered 320 million euros for acquisition of more than 290 items of equipment for treatment of oncological diseases. According to news agencies of the country, they will be set in hospitals of all Spanish autonomies. Up to this point the program for updating of the equipment for treatment and diagnostics was implemented only in Andalusia and Galicia. Its expansion became possible thanks to agreements which Ortega signed with managements of health care of regions.

Funds are allocated for equipment procurement according to needs which professionals of the health sector should define in autonomies. According to specialists in the field of treatment of oncology, annually in Spain more than 200,000 cases of cancer are diagnosed. At least in 60% from them patients need radiation therapy. Technologies of the last generation, for example, digital mammography using a tomosintez or linear particle accelerators, allow to make more exact diagnoses and and to provide to patients effective methods of treatment, less aggressive and long[2].

In 2015 Ortega's fund offered 17 million euros to Medical authorities of Galicia on updating of all centers of diagnostics and treatment of oncology in autonomy, and in 2016 40 million more euros were received by Medical authorities of Andalusia.
