2013: Leaving HP

In August, 2013 it was announced that Hewlett-Packard discharged the head of division of industrial solutions (Enterprise Group) Dave Donatelli of a position. Resignation happened against the background of the declaration of financial results of the third quarter of the next financial year during which revenue of corporation decreased by 8%.

Enterprise Group is responsible for production h86 and Itanium of servers and also products for corporate networks and storage systems. So far at the head of group there will be an operating officer of HP Bill Veghte. Donatelli, however, will not leave the company for ever: now he will be responsible for search of technology startups, potentially attractive to purchase.

Besides, HP will reassign the marketing director Marty Homlish and will integrate management of marketing and communications within a uniform division under control of Henry Gomez who was the director on communications. Now the last will become the marketing director of HP.

Financial results of HP were unsatisfactory, but even beyond all expectations corporations, the head of the company Meg Whitman recognized. She even recognized irrelevant the forecast made earlier according to which growth of revenue of the company had to begin in 2014 financial year. According to her, the hope for positive results remains only for some divisions now.

Let's remind that during the third quarter of the 2013 financial year which ended on July 31 the division of the PC showed decrease in revenue by 11%, notebooks – for 14% in piece expression, sales in mass market decreased by 22%, on commercial – for 3%. Enterprise Group revenue separately decreased by 9%, and sales of Business Critical Systems (BCS) which are based on Itanium family processors - for 26%.

2015: It is appointed the head of hardware business of Oracle

In the middle of June, 2015 Oracle announced Dave Donatelli's appointment the head of the hardware direction which has not the best times. The company lays great hopes on the veteran of the technology industry.

He will directly submit to the chief executive officer of Oracle Mark Hurd.

As notes the eWeek edition, being the head of HP, Heard enticed Donatelli from EMC that led to a complication of the relations between the companies. Hardly case did not come to court, but vendors managed to agree peacefully. The similar situation with Donatelli's arrival to Oracle will hardly repeat.

Dave Donatelli's appointment the head of the hardware direction of Oracle called into question further work of John Fowler, the executive vice president of Oracle for the Systems direction as its duties are duplicated with Donatelli. However in Oracle said that Fowler will remain in the company, having focused on technical issues and helping Donatelli.

After in 2010 Oracle purchased the producer of servers and workstations of SUN Microsystems, rumors about sale of hardware business for the purpose of complete focus on the software market started going to media regularly. Rumors were warmed up by financial failures of the producer in the market of servers and other equipment.

Their sales at Oracle in the financial year closed on May 31, 2015 dropped by 5% in comparison with an indicator of year prescription (to $2.8 billion), and revenue from rendering services of support of the hardware was reduced by 1% (to $2.4 billion).

However, Oracle sees only good points and connects future growth of hardware business with the high-performance engineering systems. Their sales grow at two-digit rates, and Oracle continues to win a share from IBM and HP, Safra Catz who along with Heard holds a post of the chief executive officer of Oracle reported on June 17, 2015.

According to Mark Hurd, Oracle will be able to strengthen positions in falling market, and Donatelli joined the company at a turning point when she was the only growing equipment manufacturer in the industry.[1]
