Gusev Dmitry Vladimirovich - Chairman of the Board of Sovcombank.

Biography

Dmitry Gusev was born on January 25, 1976 in Anadyr.

After leaving school at the Financial Academy under the Government of the Russian Federation, Dmitry continued the family tradition - his parents were also financiers.

Father Vladimir Gusev was the head of the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation until 1996, then was deputy head of the Federal Tax Service and worked on the boards of directors of large companies.

In 1998, Dmitry Gusev received a diploma in finance and credit and continued his education in graduate school, and then also received a Ph.D. in economics. The future head of Sovcombank defended his thesis on international taxation. The choice of theme was not random. It was in this direction that Dmitry Gusev worked, starting from the fifth year of the institute.

Although Dmitry Gusev was very successful in scientific activity, at some point he nevertheless decided to practice. Later, in an interview, the head of Sovcombank admitted:

"If we talk about the economic sciences, then, in my opinion, doing work today that gives an immediate practical result is much more interesting."

1997: Coopers & Librand Employee

In the fifth year of the Financial Academy in 1997, Dmitry began working in the Russian representative office of one of the audit companies of the Big Six (later the Big Four) - Coopers and Laibrand CJSC. It was one of the world's four largest companies providing audit and consulting services - and worked in a group providing services in the field of international taxation. At that moment in Russia they were rare specialists - there were very few experts of their own, they had to adopt experience from foreigners or be guided by Western literature and theory. Later, after the merger with the company PriceWaterhouse, the audit company got its current name - PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

2001: Partner at Deloitte

In 2001, Dmitry Gusev moved to the Deloitte Department of Taxes and Law in Russia. In 2005, he became a partner of the company and until 2007 headed the international taxation group in Russia and the CIS countries.

2007: Transfer to Sovcombank

In 2007, old acquaintances of Dmitry Gusev in his studies at the Finance Academy offered him to join the team of Sovcombank, then mainly a regional bank with a central office in Kostroma.

"My
friends from my student years were shareholders, plus I believed in the bank's business model," Dmitry later said.

As a result, from 2007 to the present, Dmitry Gusev has been working here: first as a member of the board of directors of Sovcombank, then as the head of the audit committee of the board of directors. In 2011, shareholders appoint Dmitry Gusev as chairman of the board.

2022: Falling under US sanctions

In March 2022, the founders of Sovcombank, brothers Sergey and Dmitry Khotimsky, as well as bank shareholders Mikhail Kuchment, Dmitry Gusev and Alexei Panferov, fell under US sanctions against the backdrop of Russia's special operation in Ukraine.

Awards and Ratings

For 2017, Dmitry Gusev is among the top 20 Russian capitalist managers according to Forbes magazine. He is a laureate of the Financial Olympus 2017 award in the nomination Banker of the Year.

In October 2018, Dmitry Gusev entered the top 10 leading capitalist directors for the second time according to Forbes magazine. In this list, he took 9th place, having a stake in Sovcombank in the volume of 7.67% (this is estimated at $81 million)

Family

As for his personal life, even in the first year of the institute, Dmitry Gusev met his future wife, Irina. At the beginning of 2019, the couple raise three daughters: Anastasia, Anna and Alexandra.

Sport

Dmitry is actively involved in sports, preferring a road bike and triathlon.

In October 2018, Dmitry Gusev successfully passed the entire Ironman distance in the Spanish city of Calella for the first time in his life. The Ironman race is considered one of the most difficult one-day competitions in the world. Ironman, conducted by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) and consists of three stages conducted without interruptions: a 3.86 km swim, a 180.25 km bike ride on the highway. and the marathon race at 42.195 km. Participants are allocated up to 17 hours for all stages.
