2018: Arrest for attempt to appropriate $1.5 million through the contract with NFL

On October 18, 2018 the U.S. Department of Justice announced that charge of attempt to take control about $1.5 million by drawing of counterfeit accounts is brought to Jeff Tran. Working at a position of the director of sports marketing and alliances in Microsoft, he profited on tickets which provided National Football League (NFL) companies within advertizing contracts.

According to the Business Insider edition, the most part of work Trana in Microsoft consisted in monitoring of marketing partnership of the company with NFL. In many respects thanks to Tran the contract for $400 million under which the league had to advertize Surface tablets was signed. In particular, devices were used by announcers at stadiums instead of paper carriers.

Microsoft provided to NFL more than 60 tickets for Superboul (a final game for a rank of the champion of NFL), and Jeff Tran had to distribute them to employees free of charge. However the top manager sold tickets, having earned about $200 thousand. Some tickets were sold to employees of the company for $12.4 thousand.

On it frauds were not limited. According to the investigation, in March, 2017 Tran on behalf of the nonexistent company through intermediaries made out Microsoft a counterfeit bill. As a result the company paid it $775 thousand. At the same time it  threatened  the intermediary companies to break off their contracts with Microsoft if they refuse to help.

Later he tried to receive $670 thousand more, but intermediaries suspected Tran of fraud and told about this Microsoft. After the beginning of trial Tran deleted all correspondences on a subject and said that it was cracked. Also it returned $775 thousand Microsoft company.

The judicial hearing of the case of Jeff Tran will take place at the end of October, 2018. Threatens it up to 20 years of imprisonment.[1]

Tran went for crimes in spite of the fact that Microsoft well pays top managers. According to the Glassdoor portal, the marketing director in the company earns about $195 thousand a year, and payments to more high-ranking heads approach $250 thousand.
