Biography

Mikhail Lesin was born on July 11, 1958 in Moscow.

In 1984 graduated from the Moscow construction institute of Kuibyshev.

In 1976-1978 underwent active duty in the Soviet army.

In 1982-1987 worked at technical positions in the system of Minpromstroy of the USSR in Moscow and Ulaanbaatar.

In 1988-1990 - the associate director on production of television programs of Creative production association "Game — the Equipment".

In 1990-1993 - the director of Youth creative production association "RTV".

In 1993-1996 - the chief of the sales department, the deputy CEO, the CEO of News TV TV company of RIA Novosti.

In 1996-1997 - the head of department of the Russian President for public relations.

In 1997-1999 - the first deputy chairman of the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK).

In 1999-2004 - the minister of the Russian Federation for printing, TV and radio broadcasting and means of mass communications.

In 2004-2009 - the Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation.

In 2004-2010 entered into Board of Directors of JSC Channel One.

In 2010-2012 - the board member of National Telecommunications company.

In April, 2014 at an extraordinary meeting of shareholders it is elected as a member of Board of Directors of Rostelecom. Lesin has experience with the current president of Rostelecom Sergey Kalugin. In 2010-2011 Lesin was the chairman of the board of directors of National Telecommunications holding (NTK) which was headed then by Kalugin. National Mediagruppa was the owner of NMG, one of major shareholders of which is Russia Bank of Yury Kovalchuk.

Lesin is considered the figure close to Kovalchuk. For example, a few years ago NMG purchased the Video International agency as which co-owner Lesin was considered. Besides, Russia Bank through Leader management company has an indirect impact on Gazprombank - the owner of Gazprom Media.

Appearance of Lesin in Board of Directors of Rostelecom fell on the period of active cooperation of the operator with Bank of Russia. In 2013 Russia Bank became the co-owner of Tele2 to whom Rostelecom ceded control over the cellular assets.

Kalugin said that Lesin will help Rostelecom to develop the media direction: for example, Rostelecom conducted negotiations on purchase of a share in Lifenews TV channel (as a result it was limited to advertizing).

In December, 2014 Mikhail Lesin filed a resignation from a post of the chairman of the board of Gazprom Media on family circumstances.

In 2015 the 58th year of life Mikhail Lesin died in the USA. As reported ABC News TV channel, Lesin's body was found on Thursday November 5 in Washington in The DuPont Circle hotel. Heart attack became a cause of death, the RIA Novosti agency with reference to[1] family reported [2]. Mikhail Lesin was one of the most ambiguous and obviously to the most influential figures of the Russian media market in general and the television market in particular.

It is buried in Los Angeles, the USA.

In March, 2016 it became known that forensic scientists in the USA came to a conclusion that head injuries became a cause of death of Mikhail Lesin, the director of communications of office of the forensic scientist of Washington Lashon Bimon[3] reported RIA Novosti[3]. "A cause of death — stupid power injuries of the head" — Bimon said. According to her, stupid injuries of a neck, trunk, upper and lower extremities became other causes of death.

Interlocutors of RIA do not speak about the character "natural" or "violent" at the injuries which became a cause of death.

In October, 2016 it became known that case of the death of the ex-Minister of Press of Russia Mikhail Lesin is officially closed, CBS News with reference to the federal prosecutor of the USA across the capital District of Columbia reports.

It is noted that accident became the reason of his death in hotel in Washington in November of last year. According to the chief forensic scientist of the District of Columbia, Lesin got multiple injuries which led to death when it was one in the room.

In the statement it is specified that were traumatized "as a result of excessive alcohol intake" that led to poisoning.

Investigation is closed now.
