Craig Mundie is the head of researches and strategic planning of Microsoft corporation. Has almost 40-year experience with computer technologies.

Biography and career

Craig Mundy started the career, being a student of Technical institute of Georgia, in 1970 in Systems Equipment company as the developer of the operating system for the Nova computer released by Data General. Then Systems Equipment was purchased by Data General company in which Mundy held afterwards a position of the director of developments. In 1982 he together with two partners founded the Alliant Computer Systems home company which is engaged in creation of vector supercomputers. Here Mundy held different positions and as a result became the chief executive.

In 1992 Alliant Computer System was closed, and Mundy went to Microsoft where became the head of department of consumer platforms - Consumer Platforms Division. Here platforms for the mobile and built-in devices and the first game products were created. Later Mundy took a position of the technical director of corporation. In this position he worked with Bill Gates, creating plans for development and promotion of Microsoft in the technology roadmap, and, in fact, defined corporate policy.

Craig Mundy held a position of the director of research and the strategy of Microsoft since in 2006 Bill Gates directing its strategy decided to switch over to a new operation mode and to devote corporations less time.

Then Gates's duties were separated between Mundy and Ray Ozzie. Mundy undertook functions on management of research division and interaction with authorities, and Ozzie began to be responsible for strategy in the software. In October, 2010 it became known of Ozzie leaving Microsoft.

In April, 2008 Craig Mundy was a part of Council for science and technologies at the U.S. President. Together with the colleagues he will be engaged in problem solving of national scale and planning of further development of science and technologies in the country.

In December, 2012 it became known that Craig Mundy till this time holding a position of the director of Microsoft of researches and to strategy will leave the company in 2014 after he is 65 years old, All Things Digital with reference to the internal letter of the CEO of Microsoft Steve Ballmer reports.
