In 1972 Paul Otellini gained the bachelor's degree on economy, and two years later - degree of the Master of Business Administration.

Biography

Paul Otellini was born on October 12, 1950 in San Francisco. His family is from Italy.

1974-1994

In 1974 Paul Otellini got a job in Intel. For many years of work in the company it replaced several positions. In 1994 he was appointed the executive vice president for sales and marketing.

2005: Appointment of Intel as the head

On May 18, 2005 the Intel corporation announced Paul Otellini's appointment the new CEO. Otellini became the first head of the company who was not an engineer by training and to a sort of professional activity — he was a sales specialist.

2012: The declaration of resignation from a post of the head of Intel

In the fall of 2012 Intel announced resignation of the president and chief executive officer Paul Otellini who devoted the companies about 40 years of the life. As the press service of Intel reported, the decision on leaving was made by Otellini.

Paul Otellini proved as the excellent head, having become only the fifth chief executive of Intel for its 45-year history. He became one of those who carried out corporation through times of difficulties and market changes, - Andy Bryant, the chairman of the board of Intel said.

For me was honor to head one of the greatest companies in the world, - Otellini said. - After nearly four decades which I spent with the company including the last eight years as the CEO, time to move further and to transfer a steering wheel to new hands came.

Otellini added that he will devote the next 6 months to search of the new head together with Bryant and a team of the colleagues. Both internal candidates, and candidates from outside will be for this purpose considered.

The press service of Intel noted that in the period of Paul Otellini's government - from 2005 to 2012 - the corporation earned $107 billion in the form of money and paid $23.5 billion dividends. Besides, revenue of Intel during the specified period grew from $38.8 billion to $54 billion, and annual earning per share - from $1.40 to $2.39.

It was reported that Otellini will resign the authority in May, 2013. Its further work location was not called.

2017: Death

On October 2, 2017 Paul Otellini died at the age of 66 years. He had wife, the son and the daughter. The cause of death of the former head of Intel is not stated.

We are deeply grieved by Paul's death. He was an incessant voice of clients in the sea of engineers. He taught us that we can win against only when we put clients into the forefront — the CEO of Intel Brian Krzanich (Brian Krzanich) who released Otellini from a post of the head of the company in 2013 reported.

From the moment of leaving Intel in 2013 Paul Otellini devoted himself to training of young people and participation in charitable organizations, including in  San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco General Hospital Foundation.

According to the analyst of Sanford C.  Stacy Rasgon Bernstein, during the management of Intel of Otellini experienced a number of triumphs and failures. The company became really big, its profitability increased, and Otellini played a key role in growth of revenue and margin, the expert noted.

The main failure consisted in lag in the market of processors of smartphones and tablets where Intel could catch no more than 1% of a share. By 2017 mobile business of corporation strongly got stronger thanks to deliveries of chips for iPhone, Bloomberg tells.[1]
