Biography

1979: Arrival to Toshiba

Satoshi Tsunakava came to Toshiba in 1979, having been engaged in medical business of corporation.

2010: Management of Toshiba Medical Systems

On June 9, 2010 Satoshi Tsunakava headed the producer of the medical equipment Toshiba Medical Systems, having focused on global sales and strategic planning of business of this division of Toshiba.

2016: Appointment of Toshiba as the head

On May 6, 2016 Toshiba announced Satoshi Tsunakava's appointment the new head of the company. Replacement of the leadership happens in conglomerate in attempt to recover from crisis which came after scandal with overestimate of profit.

The Board of Directors nominated Satoshi Tsunakava to a post of the CEO and president of Toshiba instead of Masashi Muromachi who headed the company in July, 2015. Shigenori Shiga will become the new chairman of the board of directors of corporation.

Appointments will become effective after they are formally approved by shareholders at the meeting planned for the end of June, 2016. 66-year-old Masashi Muromati will continue work in Toshiba as the special adviser.

At the press conference in Tokyo organized on May 6, 2016 on the occasion of the declaration of replacement of the leadership of Toshiba, 60-year-old Satoshi Tsunakava said that he will be engaged in recovery of the company by concentration of resources on the growing areas (nuclear power engineering, the semiconductor industry, infrastructure solutions) and taking measures to financial improvement.

He also promised to improve the corporate culture undermined as a result of financial scandal. In 2015 it became known of long-term accounting frauds of top managers as a result of which they attributed corporations about $1.3 billion nonexistent profit.

The most part of operating time in the company Satoshi Tsunakava was engaged in medical business, including was his head. In fact, the new CEO of the company has no work experience in other areas, except as health care, however Tsunakava sees in it great advantage — impartiality in acceptance of rational strategic decisions.

Meanwhile, analysts to whom the Financial Times newspaper refers, say that for strengthening of a financial position and return of investor confidence of Toshiba strong heads and strategic concentration are necessary.[1]

2018: Departure from the job of the head of Toshiba

On February 14, 2018 Toshiba announced Satoshi Tsunakava's leaving from a post of the CEO of the company. Its place will be taken by the banker Nobuaki Kurumatani. Read more here.

Satos Tsunakava continued to work in Toshiba, having become the representative director and the president and also the chief executive (COO).
