Biography

Was born on June 30, 1948 in the city of Melenki of the Vladimir region.

In 1972 Vladimir Yakunin graduated from the Leningrad mechanical institute.

Began a labor activity the junior researcher of the State institute of applied chemistry. After the termination of service in the Soviet Army worked as the engineer, the senior foreign economic relations engineer of Management of the State committee of Council of Ministers of the USSR, the head of department of Physics and technology institute of A.F. Ioffe of Academy of Sciences of the USSR.

From 1985 to 1991 - at diplomatic work (the second, then first secretary of Permanent mission of the USSR at the UN).

Further - the chairman of the board of directors of International Centre of Business Cooperation Ltd, the chief of Northwest district inspection of the Main Control Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation.

Since October, 2000 - the deputy minister of transport of the Russian Federation. Since February, 2002 - the First Deputy Minister of Railways.

Since October, 2003 - the senior vice president of JSC Russian Railways.

The order of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 786-r of June 14, 2005 it is appointed the president of JSC "Russian Railways".

Vladimir Yakunin is the chairman of the Board of trustees of the Center of national glory and Fund of Andrew the First-Called.

Since January, 2006 is the research supervisor and the Chairman of the Board of trustees of the Center of the problem analysis and state and managerial design at the UN of RAS (www.rusrand.ru).

Assistance of Fund of Andrew the First-Called and personally V.I. Yakunin in recovery of Orthodox churches and monasteries extends far away from Russia. For example, in February, 2011 the 5-meter gilded cross decorated a dome of the new temple in the Estonian capital. Construction of the temple became possible in many respects thanks to personal participation of Yakunin. And on December 4, 2016 the ceremony of consecration of the new Orthodox church located on Branli Embankment in Paris was held.
