2019: Level of availability of the CumulusPower UPS of fourth generation of 99.9999999%

The building block system of the UPS of fourth generation of CumulusPower of the Swiss producer Centiel set a world record of level of availability of 99.9999999% ("9 nine"). The three-phase modular uninterruptible power supply unit with double conversion, support of hot swap and complete decentralization is delivered in options with power from 10 kW to 3.6 MW. According to the producer, the indicator of level of availability is crucial for IT specialists and responsible for the continuity of work of the enterprise. CumulusPower provides the availability level "9 nine" due to use of completely independent self-insulating intelligent modules UPSes, each of which has separate rectifiers and inverters, a static bypass, the CPU, the system of communication and the display. This UPS system allows to reach a downtime indicator in 35.1 ms a year.

The high level of availability of a power supply, according to the producer, is provided due to Centiel technology in which components which failure leads to system failure are completely eliminated. This technology is called "a distributed architecture with active redundancy" (DARA) and allows to prevent errors of operators and to reduce costs of time for service and repair. The technology of active redundancy allows engineers and service maintenance specialists to perform maintenance works and service works in the protected and safe environment without disconnection of loading from all system.

The modular DARA technology also has the built-in mechanism of automatic selfrecovery. In an improbable case of an output of one module out of operation a system will change the configuration to maintain an overload in 124% in a continuous duty. At the same time it will be possible to replace the module quickly and safely in the mode of "hot swap" without transfer of load of other systems or the power supply network, claim in Centiel.

According to the statement of the producer, in addition to the availability level "9 nine" CumulusPower provides high energy efficiency at the level of 97.1% in the mode of double conversion. CumulusPower provides the smallest cost of ownership and the low level of environmental pollution. It is reached at the expense of the built-in function of intellectual highly effective management (MEM) which compares the number of modules with required loading and controls optimum energy efficiency. At the low level of loading all modules which are not necessary for preserving of redundancy are transferred to the mode of an active dream that reduces the general energy consumption. At increase in loading modules are instantly brought out of the mode of an active dream that guarantees the high level of availability.

CumulusPower gives an opportunity of the choice of number of accumulators to which the UPS is connected. Many UPSes support connection to the fixed number of accumulators, however the solution Centiel can adapt to any number of accumulators from 30 to 50. Accumulators are independently connected to each module that provides complete redundancy or synchronism at parallel use of several sets of accumulators in a system. It provides additional flexibility of adaptation to requirements for battery life, allows to reduce the cost of the new systems and to reuse accumulator banks when replacing outdated UPSes in the operating systems, emphasized in Centiel.
